Jean-Francois went in the 7th, I believe. I just don't see how we passed up Gilbert, Marks, Magee and Miller to take Martin in the second. Chanes are that Sharrod still would have been there at the Irvin pick in the third considering he was a tweener that wasn't top grade at either the CB or S position. Instead, we pass on guys all reated higher at a postion with more grave depth issues.

I have no problem taking a FB, but as high as he went (when only 3 FBs were drafted) in the 4th is a bit aburd. A position that is all but phased out of the game and we use such a high pick on him.

My biggest issue is not the positions drafted; for ONCE I agree with them all. However, the personnel and rounds where the players were taken is the peeve I have.

Considering I just said I for once agree with all the positional selections and keeping those constant, here's how I would have done things:

    #59 DT Sen'Derrick Marks

    #93 DE Lawrence Sidbury Jr.

    #128 CB Gregory Toler

    #163 Duke Robinson (Actual pick)

#216 FB Brannan Southerland (still would have traded down to the Raiders)

so the only pick you liked was the overweight guard who's the weakest lineman we drafted since Bruce Nelson

Yep, you can have a weight clause in his contract and Simmons has a knack for turning guys into gym rats.

Remember, Mathis had one of the highest bench reps of a guard his draft year and turned out not to be much of a player.

Hitting the weights is not much of an issue and we've only had one player that snubbed their nose at the team's request to lose weight; that being Jenkins. He was a head-case at any rate.

Nelson's problems weren't his bench press, it was his fucked up hips.

HIs grammy must've put him in an excersaucer.

well, 300 lb guys being strong or not strong isn't a huge concern. When you are 360-380, drop weight to look good for scouts, and then can't lift much, it's not damning, but it doesn't help.

at any rate, not to down the pick too heavily, he still has promise. But he gets universally lauded and the more solid, more useful, ready to play players get shit on.

it was both. Before he screwed his hip up he was getting blown up on the field.

I enjoyed this thread more before we started talking about Bruce Nelson :(

That one still stings a bit.
