Gossage makes the Hall

    McGwire has about 1600 hits. That's low.

    He was a one trick pony, and his late career home run surge is the only hall of fame credential he has.


    Bonds and Clemons, love them or hate them, ammassed HOF credentials before it is believed that they started juicing. Without the juice, I personally believe Bonds would have still gotten around 600 Hrs while keeping his speed game for a few more years.

    If he had never taken steroids, McGwire might have had the career of Dave Kingman or Darrell Evans.


    It's possible, but I don't think he would have reached 600. He was at 411 when he started juicing in '99, so I think 500-550 is more realistic. Definitely a Hall of Famer, though. Clemens is a more interesting case, as I believe he juiced a lot more than just what McNamee testified about. He suddenly improved a ridiculous amount after leaving Boston in '96, and it's not hard to imagine that Duquette's comments made him desperate enough to start using heavily.
