It will cost me $970. My specs I wanted were between 40-50 inches at least 720p LCD or Plasma.
My budget is $1100. Should I spend the extra $130 to get this Sony Bravia KDL-40S3000
and if so what should I get?

That LG isn't a widescreen model = piece of junk. do not buy.
I'd pay EXTRA to NOT get a Sony. Proprietary crap = I don't touch sony products (I can't believe they STILL use that damn memory stick crap, costs extra for zero extra value).

You can get a Panasonic plasma in that price, and many LCD TV's.

Technically, it is a wide screen. I think you mean that the resolution is only 1024x768, which is 4:3 aspect ratio.

That is now outdated tech, so yeah, I'd skip it. If you want a plasma at that price, there are several Panasonic & Samsung models that are 16:9 sets such as this one that are close to your price range.

Try pricegrabber.com and look for deals.

not to bicker over minutia, but 4:3 is not widescreen. That's the same format that TV's have come in for decades, just flat and hi-res.

that would still be wider than it is tall... otherwise they'd call it a tall screen

silent moves were made in 4:3

It says on that link that it is 1024 x 768. How is that not widescreen?

    1024/768 = 1.3333 = 4:3

However, the physical dimensions of the screen are close to 1.78x ratio (aka 16:9).
