    Rashad McCants:

    On the atmosphere...
"The last few games have been really exhilarating. I'm happy to be out there." On being a leader on the team...
"That's part of my personality - to get the people around me happy, making them smile, get them involved and have fun." On going out on an up...
"I think I played pretty well, to the best of my ability. But we've got to move on and get better for next year." On if he's coming back next year...
    "Definitely."

    David Noel:

On struggling against the zone defense...
"That's been our problem all year. We haven't been able to penetrate a zone and make shots, and think we've been laying back on our threes - we can't do that. We tried to penetrate, and they have some long guys so they got their hands on a lot of balls."

    Sean May:

    On the game...
"Everyone's a little unhappy, but we came out there and played great all the way down to the wire - that's all you can ask for. On his ankle...
"My ankle's a lot better. It's feeling a little tender, a little sore. I'm going to sit out 2 weeks - no basketball, just hitting the weights and running a lot. This is going to be a big spring and summer for me. It's been tough - any time you suffer an injury it's tough. I never thought I'd get hurt. I came back, played the one game, got hurt again - that was a little tough for me to handle. I didn't come back because I didn't want to hold myself back this summer." On coming back next year...
"Definitely. I don't like the rumors. It's good to know that people want you here. I want people to know that I'm at Carolina, I'm going to be at Carolina, and I wish the rumors would stop." On if Head Coach Matt Doherty will be back...
"I expect him to be here as well."

but this just can't be dukey.

all the players hate the coach.

the program is in a death spiral.

they could hardly fill the bottom floor of ther arena because all the fans have abandoned the program.

you must be mistaken - everybody is a dook fan now - haven't you heard?

I was proud of the team for turning it on for the last 3 games - it would have been very easy to go in the tank to get the season over with.

I hope doh comes back next year - he has proven to be a good recruiter and deserves at least one more shot to see what he can do with a more experienced team.

No doubt the Heels will be better - another offseason for this team to gel. Hopefully Grant can get in better shape - a healthy May will get the Heels back to the form they had early in the season - Terry doesn't add much size but gives them another athlete. The sky is the limit on Noel - an offseason concentrating on hoops and defense and shooting will really elevate his game.

It was awesome to see the crowds in the Deandome the last 3 games . Just imagine the noise that place could generate if they had that kind of crowd for an ACC game.

I don't give a rats ass what the dookies think - the Heels still have the biggest, loudest, most loyal fan base of any school around. and it looks like they a have a team now too.

Looking forward to the ACC wars again next year.

I'm sorry but I just don't think you can put any credence in what a player says in that situation. An annoucement wouldn't come while the player was still on campus or standing in the Dean Dome thats for sure. I put more credence in what a player has been saying all year:

"If that’s what we have to do, and we come to an agreement, sure. I just want what’s best for the program. I just want a fair chance." Melvin Scott, on playing for Doherty next year.

"I think him and Coach D have to sit down and have a talk. He’s got a lot of things on his mind. He needs to take that up with Coach Doherty. He has a lot of questions he wants to be answered...You’ll have to ask him about {the questions]." Sean May on his father's concerns.

According to an article in the Poop Sheet, aka The ACC Area Sports Journal, though, Scott May has expressed his concerns to a number of people on a regular basis. And the article follows up on a previous column which suggested that players and parents are very unhappy with the status quo. On record already, with the Wilmington Star, Jawad Williams' mom: "(Doherty) drove those kids insane last year. He drove them nuts."

You'll have to purchase a copy or pay to access their Web site, but the key quote is probably this: folks will be in "an absolute state of shock - from both the severity of the remarks and the sources of them - if the many unpublished anti-Doherty comments offered by Carolina players, parents, ex-players and ex-coaches reach the public forum."

Hey it could all be rumor. Of course y'all Heel fans said there was no dissention last year and you almost lost a couple of more players.

Has it come to be that collegiate sports are taking on the life of Little League Baseball? Since when do the players and parents of players dictate who's coaching and worse, who gets the most playing time????? This is utter BS in my opinion! It's really sad that it has come to this. You wouldn't have seen this happening in Dean Smith's 4th year as coach. How times have changed.

I'll just quote the pertinent parts of your post...

and yet Williams is still playing for Doherty and seems to be flourishing as a team leader as the season wound down.

Scott was getting mega minutes at the end - finally relegating Manuel to the 6th man roll he should be playing anyway.

May played despite what the doctors and Daddy said. Why? Because he wanted to wear a UNC uniform and try and beat dook - doesn't seem like the actions of a player that is eager to leave.

despite all the "dissension" last year - the only players that left were Guts players that shouldn't even be playing at Chapel Hill to start with - if Boone and Morrison and Fingleton had stayed imagine how much "dissension" talk there would have been this year over playing time and who fit where.

I remember a few years back when KiIUAigssAISUHAsi had a teamful of dissension with players and parents ( Burgess , Avery) that left - and there were all kinds of articles about how dook was underacheiving and KyuuaYUag was losing his touch.

so PLEASE don't act like this is something unique to UNC.

It doesn't wash. The Tar Heels are fine. The wheels fell off last year - and whether the dookies want to admit it or not this year was a huge improvement and next year will be even better. The Heels are moving in the right direction again. The three huge raucous crowds for lowly NIT games showed the fans are still with the program and the blowout in the tourney aside the heels were playing right with the dookies this year - and will again next year. And its funny to hear the dookies talk about being satisfiedwith just making the sweet sixteen when only a few short years ago nothing less than the final four would do.

It has been my pleasure to pass the mantle of the team that chokes in the spring to dook - they deserve it.

enjoy your loss tonight. I know I will.

Duke underachieving when Avery left? Hell, they only played for the NC that year. Methinks your memory is failing with your age.
