OK, Lidge is awesome, but I don't know about that. He does have one thing going for him, he didn't make any comments about New Yorkers and ruin his career. :laugh1:

Now that my Braves are out of it, I'd love to see Houston take the series from the Sox.

not a fair statement until Lidge surpasses him for consecutive saves, which he'll never do. Pass Gagne? I think not. Pass Smoltz, I think not. In one year? Give me a break. This kid has to do more of that for 3 years to get that kind of respect. Sure he has outstanding stuff, but he's inconsistant at best.

    04' stats

    smoltz.....2.76 era, 44 of 49 save opps converted, 81.2 ip, 85 k's, 75 hits allowed

    gagne.....2.19 era, 45 of 47 save opps converted, 82.1 ip, 114 k's, 53 hits allowed

lidge.....1.90 era, 29 of 33 save opps converted (only in the 2nd half after dotel was traded mind you), 94.2 ip, 157 k's, 57 hits allowed

fellas, according to the numbers, other than blown saves, which were mostly in his first month being a closer, he has the other 2 beat.

i made a prediction for next season, and if he pitches like this again next year, he will be the most dominant closer in the game. biggest advantage over the other two is he apparently has a rubber arm.

Gagne less hits, and alot of strikeouts, while he out for sometime with a sore shoulder. You can't replace his dominance in one year, can you? I mean, he went 2 years w/o blowing a save.

45 of 47 or 29 of 33...Gagne still looks better to me. So if you had a choice of either have Lidge on your team, or Gagne, you'd take Lidge?

That move is as smart as everything else you've posted! :xyzthumbs

Gagne had 2 bad games, 2. Just b/c he's "starting to break out" doesn't make him more dominate, imo, just makes him AS dominate.

dude, quit looking for an argument and notice the part where i said "look for lidge to take his place as the most dominant closer in the game NEXT year". i didn't go pointing out stats until you tried arguing with me. then, and only then, did i say that if you look at stats and the way the 3 pitched in the 2nd half, he is the most dominant already.

well which one is it? dominant already? or may take his place next year? still, even then, he hasn't done what Gagne or Smoltz has done over the last couple years to be dominant. For example, the Patriots. People still dont conisder them "dominant" or "a dynasty" and they have won 20 games in a row, setting an all time record, and 2 Super Bowls in the last 3 years. In order to be dominant in a pro sport, you have to prove yourself over a period of at LEAST 2 years if not more. You could be right, if he posts these same numbers into next post season, he COULD take the place of the 2 most dominant closers in Baseball, until then. Dont mention it.
