Well, yeah.....UNC and Duke certainly benefit from their basketball history when March selection rolls around.

 

I tried once before to say something about basketball having a higher priority in the "south" and football does in the "north" once before and I was shot down big time.

I love sports but I don't know stats and half the time I can't tell you who use to play for who but I love the games. If you ask someone like me to name great college football teams - I will come up with northern schools.........ask me about basketball and I will say more southern schools. I know this probably isn't coming out exactly right - I can't really explain it...............

 

Depends on what part of the South you are talking about.

Basketball sucks monkeyballs in SEC country, generally...but in North Carolina BB is king.

I was taking to my sister in Ohio last night (who follows sports less than I do) I asked her to name good college football teams She said Ohio (give her a break she is loyal) Michigan, Wisconsin and Nebraska. I asked the same about basketball and the first team out of her mouth was the Heels followed by Florida then she kinda went blank because she said she doesn't watch football that much.

Maybe its just me - but it just seems like "northern" is more football "southern" leans towards basketball. Again - please no bashing - I know this probably isn't coming out exactly the way I want it too.

 

Go to Alabama and say that. You may get tar and feathered.

Basketball is king in NC whereas ever other southern state, except Kentucky and I'm not sure you'd consider it southern, football is king and always has been and probably always will be.

 

Good for her. Did she go to school there?

 

Other than in NC & Kentucky football has always been a higher priority in the South. I think you had it backwards.
