That show kind of lost it's edge when it went from b&w to color.

I disagree, I think GI really started to pick up with color episodes. Now Andy Griffith, that show lost a little something when it went color.

I think the story lines on Island improved after the conversion, but it seems like the characters lost some of their depth. They became caricatures. Gilligan had some hint of problem-solving skills in the beginning, but eventually he was portrayed as being totally inept. I think it would have been nice to see him grow into a leadership role, maybe eventually replacing the Skipper.

I agree with you on Andy Griffith.

Which begs the question - Has any show improved by going from b&w to color?

Those flying monkeys are scary either way. I think they were worse in B&W though.

I never seen them in black and white. The Oz I always watch turns to color when Dorothy nails the witch.

Putt, it might have been that old B&W TV of my grandfather's that I was watching it on. That old TV was the oldest working Zenith in Greenville County, SC that had never been repaired. It won him a nice color console TV has was worth a bunch back then. Of course the new set didn't last nearly as long.

I'll take I Dream of Jeanie and Bewitched in color. Gunsmoke was a great show either way. I haven't seen Bonanza enough to form an opinion.

I still drool over Jeanie. Dang.
