    He did restore the Yankees from about 15 years of mediocrity but he also caused the divide between the haves and the have nots to grow.

    I didn't realize until THE BRONX IS BURNING ESPN Series a few years ago the Steinbrenner's close association with UNC-Chapel Hill (his daughter Jenni was a student there during the 1977 Season and later graduated from there). The Yankees played a few exhibition games there in the late 70s/early 80s. They contributed a lot of money to renovation of the baseball stadium there (the entreway is now named for the family).

    George also contributed a lot of money to help build the Dean Dome.
