    Halfway through Game of Thrones and I can't put it down. Can't believe it took me this long to find this series.

    Fantasy...

    Not a lot of "critters & magic" in it though. George spends a lot more time developing his human characters. And there's no cearly "right" side. Every character compromises his ethics and has faults. It's very hard to put down because it's easy to identify with despite the absurd setting.

    This series is rightly compared (the only valid comparison) with Lord of the Rings. It's vast in scope, intriguing and major characters are not without flaws and without a serious chance of being killed off each book, etc. They just delayed book 4 until summer 2004... :( Had it pre-ordered a year ago...
