I am thinking about buying my daughter a Sony PSP handheld game. Just from some of what I have read you can play movies on this thing? Load music on it like a MP3 player and oh play games? Can someone in english explain this. You gotta have several memory chips I am sure. One for maybe one movie, one for a few songs and one for gaming

I love my PSP. You can play movies, but they are not regular DVDs, they are UMDs(universal media disc)They cost about the same as a dvd. You can play MP3s on it, but you have to hook a USB cable to it and get the songs from your computer. You do need a bigger memory stick if you want to listen to music. It comes with a 32 mb memory stick, I have a 256mb one and can hold about 60 songs and some game saves. The graphics on the system are almost ps2 quality. The system is great but I would ask how old your daughter is because this thing costs $250 and is kind of fragile. If that is a problem you might want to try the GBA sp(gameboy advance) I hope I helped a litlle.

Thats only for movies downloaded from online. The one you buy are already formatted. Trust me there are tons of movies already out. UMD is getting very big.

Yeah you can convert your DVDs to a memory stick to play them, however I've heard they don't look as good as a UMD which you buy. Obviously even a 1 gig memory stick won't hold more than 1 or 2 movies either.
