The problem, at least for the Pistons, was the dicrepancy in foul calls. At the end of the first half the two Wallaces had combined for 5 fouls and Duncan had none. Give me a freaking break. With that much banging going on how does it not go both ways?

Someone in an earlier post mentioned the Pistons going small in the 3rd, hell, they had no choice.

Sure. 5 whole fouls. That's almost 3 a piece! Wow! You get 6 a game! They had less than the half allowed! Amazing!

But if you paid any attention to the fact that those folks were hanging on Duncan like a cheap sheet from the windows of my den for the last 3 games instead of simply assuming a conspiracy to protect Tim, then you'd know that they could've been fouled out by halftime instead of having ONLY five fouls.

Edit: The Pistons play physical. Sometimes that blows up in your face.

I dont think there is a conspiracy. the pistons earned their fouls....its Duncan not getting called for several that were made by him. he is physical too. acouple of times the whistle blew he was putting his hands on his head like he knew he commited a foul....and they gave it to barry or bowen(not like this kind of thing never happens)

what? you're kidding, right? there were a lot of touch fouls, but the calls were pretty even. at least most of the calls against detroit you could see contact. there were plenty against san antonio where there was actually no contact to speak of.

i thought detroit got the benefit of the calls, myself.

duncan's moves are towards the basket. rasheed's moves were generally away from the basket (turn around, fade aways). rasheed's defense was swiping at the ball which is a good way to pick up fouls. since they didn't go at duncan at all, really, he didn't have to play much defense aside from being 7' and in the middle.

the pistons could have used elden campbell to stay big. he's not gonna bring a ton, but having prince as your PF is asking a bit too much, i think.

    Elden obviously brings nothing.

The point is that Detroit is a better team and lost because the refs decided the game. They forced Detroits hand in the second half.

Your argument that Rasheed fades away is legit. What about BWallace, Rip, Prince and Billups who all drive hard to the basket?

or Darko because he is tall. They should have gone with Darko and Elden, what was Brown thinking!!

If he steps down they should hire you as their coach since you are so smart.

billups drew foul after foul, so i dunno why you'd complain about him not being fouled.

rip shoots jump shots and had the taller bruce bowen on him. bowen, by the way, had 5 fouls.

prince has been invisible the whole series. ginobili is a pretty good defender. prince couldn't get around him and the pistons didn't post prince up at all where you'd force some contact.

i was pulling for detroit and was ready to yell at the refs for falling for another ginobili flop, but i just didn't see it that way. they called it tight, no doubt, but there were a lot more phantom calls against the spurs than against detroit.

and yeah, you can't expect elden to give you a ton on the offensive end (tho he did have a nice pass to hunter for a layup) but at least you force a big guy to guard him on the post and get the defense to respect his presence. and on D, you've got a big, wide body that can play duncan reasonably well.
