    I wish I knew but I don't math. I can only add to the questions - -

I like the idea of incentives, especially for key skill positions. Does anyone here know what happens if you are barely under the cap and a player reaches his 950k in incentives putting you over the cap?
I am guessing that you probably can’t load potential incentives that would put you above your existing cap figure . . . can anyone confirm that?

I don’t think a guy in Fosters position will be interested in any more than a 3 or 4 year contract so I doubt Gaffney’s 7years will have any serious effect. His bonus isn’t out of line since it’s spread out over those 7 years initially. The incentives will probably come into play though. Judging by the other 2nd round contracts I would take a guess at something like this –

    3 million over 4 years – Signing bonus: $1,540,000. Base salaries: 262.5k (2002), 327.5k (2003), 400k (2004), 470k(2005)

There will probably be easy incentives for Foster to void the final year (2005). They might go for tougher added incentives that would go as high as doubling each years base salary. Hopefully those factors won’t get too lofty or complicated.

if a player meets incentives that can't be met under the current year (the year the incentives are met) the incentives are charged to the following year's cap.

    >>There will probably be easy incentives for Foster to void the final year (2005).

There would be no possible way for that to happen.
2005 would be his fourth year...if the team were to do this, he could void out and then he'd simply be RFA. There's no positive for that situation to happen on either side. The player would be voiding into a situation where the team would basically just first round compensate him and he'd be no more able to go to another team - and the team would be no more likely to try to extend a contract than it naturally would be.

If it were a five or six year deal - which it may have to be, since Gaffney's signing bonus will probably set a bar - the final year being voidable is possible but not traditional.
The bonus will probably be in line with Gaffney's but over a shorter length - $1.4 mil to $1.75 mil.
Right now it depends on where DeShaun wants to go. The team will pretty much have to go in the direction he wishes to go.

that's not but $450,000 less than what Rashard got that year. And that was ten picks before.
