gabbert is very Clausen-esk. Plays just like him. Plays scared, indicisive, weak armed, but has a decent moment or two- and only that.

I saw the same thing when watching his highlights. I was in the pick Dareus then Dalton or Yates in a later round crowd, and I was wrong. I was never impressed with Gabbert though.

No, you weren't wrong. As fun as Cam has been to watch, the Panthers would be better off long-term if they had taken Dareus. There's no DT even close to that good in the upcoming draft, while there are plenty of talented QBs.

Dareus doesn't impact the game like having an elite QB. Not saying Cam is elite yet, but if he continues to progress he may be.

    Elite QB>Elite DT

Keep in mind that Dareus isn't Suh, and that the NFL is a business. You're not going to sell out a stadium or get prime-time games due to a fierce DT. The NFL is a QB driven league, and Cam makes us relevant.

I don't think Cam will ever be an elite QB, although he could become a "very good" one. The problem for Carolina is that "very good" QBs are much easier to find than "very good" DTs, at least these days.

I agree that Dareus isn't Suh, but he is making a big impact for Buffalo. The rest of your justification is nonsense, though. BoA stadium is PSL-based, so there's no real need to worry about selling tickets, which is a spectacularly retarded focus to have when choosing players anyway. Cam has been extremely impressive for a rookie, but this franchise would be much better off over both the short and long term if they had chosen Dareus simply because of the alternatives at QB & DT. Winning is what ultimately matters to a fanbase. If the Panthers continue to lose, the fascination with Newton will eventually end.

You're wrong about not drafting a player from business aspect. The NFL is about making money: jersey sales, tv revenue, ticket sales, ect... Cam has this franchise in the spotlight every week, even more than we went to the Superbowl. He's constantly the backdrop of pre game and post game shows. He is giving the Panthers national exposure, and in 10 years he could do for this franchise as much as Manning has done for the Colts, Brady for the Patriots, or Farve for the Packers. There weren't nearly as many Pats and Indy fans in this region before Brady and Manning. Cam can draw in a whole new fanbase. Dareus can't do that. Maybe it's just me, but I'd much rather watch Cam throw for +300yds and run for +50yds and lose in the final seconds over watching a stagnant offense with a run stopping DT.
