    Panthers part with Jeffers

    From Staff And Wire Reports
The Carolina Panthers released wide receiver Patrick Jeffers on Tuesday, but their dealings with the former star whose career was derailed by knee injuries may not be over.
Jeffers' agent, Brad Blank, said they were considering legal action against the team or the team's former head physician for faulty medical care that may have ended his career prematurely.
" 'Considering' is the operative word," Blank said of future legal action. "Nothing has happened, nothing has been decided, and Pat's not looking to pick a fight. But he will consider it."
After Jeffers tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee on Aug. 10, 2000, he had season-ending surgery. The same day as the ACL surgery, former team physician Dr. Donald D'Alessandro performed microfracture surgery on his left knee.
The problem was, Jeffers didn't know the second surgery was going to be performed, and that could become the basis for future legal action against the team or D'Alessandro. Jeffers said last July that if his ACL hadn't been torn, he likely would not have had the microfracture surgery.
"Obviously, I wish the procedure had worked a little better," Jeffers said last summer when it was obvious he wouldn't be ready to start the regular season. He played in nine games last year, catching 14 passes.
D'Alessandro is no longer employed by the Panthers. He was replaced before last season.
Panthers general manager Marty Hurney said he couldn't comment on the issue because no lawsuits have been filed.

This is the reason players and teams get second opinions. Take a hike Patrick.

I used to work for a company that implemented the transcription system at Miller Orthopaedic. D'Alessandro's a dick.

IF they did the surgery without Pat knowing, how could he get a second opinion?

I'd be pissed if somebody cut into my knee without my consent, and I'm not an athlete.

You don't read do you. He said he didn't know that the microfracture surgery was to be performed, like the good doctor decided to run up the bill to the panthers a little with no patient approval.

Did they hit him over the head with a hammer and strap him to the table?

Dumbass - he went in for ACL. The doctor did the ACL on one knee, and then did microfracture on the other knee. The microfracture wasn't scheduled, according to the article.

I wonder if that article is accurate. I wouldn't sue, I burn his fucking house down and kill his dog.

Think how pissed you'd be if a doctor runied your career like that. It's not the ACL knee acting up. It's the microfracture. That's what did Chuck Smith in, too.

I find it hard to believe that the surgery on another knee was done without consent.
