That Syracuse punter is pretty good.

Texas won't be catching them on a sandwich game between conference rivals.

On Saturday, abso-fucking-lutely, but his statistics over the course of the season are not as good as those of some other players around the country (remember that Bush got an extra game to pad stats because USC played at Hawaii, giving them a 12th game), and some guys are obviously more valuable to their team. There have been plenty of games where USC didn't need Bush at all because of LenDale White or Matt Leinart. Do you think Texas would win all of its games without Vince Young?
Vince Young, DeAngelo Williams, Michael Bush and Drew Olson at least. The list of "who's more important" is a lot longer, while the list of "who's better" was longer until the Fresno State game. With that one performance he vaulted himself from a pretty mediocre season statistically to a very impressive one. Of course, how he finishes up against UCLA could affect things as well.

I understand your reasoning, and if it was a "who's more important contest" Bush probably would be less in the running for the Heisman. But it's not, it's for the best player, and Bush is as good as anyone else. As for his value to the team, no way SC wins that Fresno game without Bush. They get blown out. The Trojans have only been in three close games all year and Bush has averaged about 325 all-purpose yards in those games. I'm not saying it's in the bag, but he's just as deserving as Vince Young. Texas has had one close game (Ohio State). A great defense and a weak schedule have a lot to do with their success.

Reggie Bush was third in the nation in all-purpose yards going into the Fresno game (he now leads). how is that mediocre? his yards per rush is about two more than everyone else.

Michael Bush? I don't know what to say. He's not even the most valuable player on his team.

His ypr is amazing, but the all-purpose yards gives him a benefit over players who don't return kicks or punts. Granted, Bush deserves extra credit for returning kicks and punts, but all-purpose yards has never been a good statistic because it values yards on returns and those from scrimmage equally. Obviously it's a hell of a lot easier to rack up yardage on returns than it is from scrimmage, which is why return men regularly rank among the leaders in all-purpose yardage even if they aren't starters on offense.

He's getting absolutely no publicity, but he's definitely the most valuable player for Louisville and is having a very impressive season. Their schedule hasn't been difficult, but Florida Atlantic is the only embarrassing opponent. And when you consider the fact that he has 928 yards and 20 rushing touchdowns in only nine games (as opposed to Reggie's 11), that's pretty impressive. (Michael has also gained 245 yards receiving with one more touchdown)

Remember what I said about Pinegar's shaky confidence and choking with the game on the line? There you go... He was all world in the first half, and I was astounded. But as soon as he tossed that first pick, he started to unravel.

It's to his credit he started hitting the short outs again, but he panicked with 90 seconds on the clock and forced a ball that never should've been thrown. Game over.

It was a heck of a game, though. :woot:

Sadly I had a long night Friday and a long day Saturday (at the Carolina-Duke game), so I fell asleep during the first quarter.

I dunno. Bush has star quality and everyone's paying attention to him. And deservedly so. But you almost never hear shit about Lendale White. Y'all might know him as that guy who has 6 more rushing touchdowns than Bush, and plays on the same fucking team. I'm not saying that Bush sucks, or that White's necessarily on par, but he's also damn good, and I can't see that being something that should work to Bush's Heisman credit.

I yelled at ESPN last year that they were ignoring LenDale White, but at least they've given him a little bit of love this season.
