don't get too excited. fsu got whacked by pitt and wisconsin last week -- both top 10 teams and on the road, but whackings nonetheless.

fsu is good-- mainly because al thornton is a stud -- but they desperately miss a big man. budding stud alexander johnson bolted for the NBA after a good late-season run last year. back in may, fsu pulled it's scholarship offer from 6-foot-11, 5-star signee jon kreft after he was arrested for cocaine posession. he was supposed to be a superstar.

so, now fsu is learning to play without a dominating presence in the paint while integrating a new point guard. fsu needs to cut out the mistakes that hurt them so badly in those road losses. they played very well in the win over florida last night, but they usually play well against the gators. fsu led the gators by 17 at one point in last year's game.

thornton is an all-acc first-teamer but they guys around him need to grow up fast if they want to go to the ncaa tournament this year. last year, fsu was team #66 because of a terrible OOC schedule (that's why they played pitt, wisconsin and uf in a span of 10 days this year).

if johnson was here, fsu is a sweet-16 team. without him, i'd say they make the tournament, but need a couple other players to step up -- mainly PG toney douglas and F ryan reid.
