'We hear Panthers fifth-round draft picks Randy Fasani and Kyle Johnson have decent shots at taking over the roster spots currently held by quarterback Matt Lytle and fullback Brad Hoover, respectively. '

    And....

'While they weren’t concerned enough to switch gears with the draft’s second overall pick and select Oregon QB Joey Harrington over North Carolina DE Julius Peppers, we hear the Panthers aren’t entirely comfortable with the physical condition of QB Chris Weinke, who was forced to miss the Panthers’ May minicamp after undergoing surgery April 10 on his throwing shoulder. The Panthers say Weinke should be fully healthy for the Panthers’ three-week minicamp in June, but we hear Weinke seemed a bit concerned in the days leading up to presstime. In the team’s initial minicamp under new head coach John Fox, Weinke hardly received a glowing endorsement after throwing tentatively and looking in obvious pain. Stay tuned. '

    And...

'With wide receiver Jevon Walker on board via the draft, the Packers will not pursue potential street free agent Keenan McCardell. The Jaguars' wideout is expected to be cut June 1.'

Is McCardell worth a look? I can't remember if it's been discussed.

Did I read that right at NFL.com? Peete has only played 4 games in the last 3 years and never a 16 game season...

Earlier after the draft I was a little high on Fasani, not knowing much about him prior - but I understand its rare for any rookie QB to come in and make an impact in the W column.

Based on your info about the Winkster and the other guys... I'd look for us to have somebody else in here before our first preseason game...

Well, it's not my info, but I agree about getting another guy. If not for anything else than the competition.

Correction: Based on the info you provided... ;)

I'm trying to think who, with experience would be available. Where is that dude that won the XFL championship?

Joe Hamilton is starting out strong over there in Europe with a 96.3 QB rating but he is on loan from TB...

    So who is/will be avaiablable?

Exactly. Who is out there that we could pick up? First, who are the free agents talented/durable enough to come in as starter this season? Second, if they're that good, could we afford them given our salary cap situation? I think the answer to the first one is the hardest. Help me out?

Well, having the run oriented game should really help whoever lines up behind center.

How many times did Lytle have to throw vs. St Louis? Weinke vs. Arizona?

Let's hope Weinke's ok, b/c as scary as it is, he's our best guy.

So, anyone willing to work for 500K. All we can afford being tight against the cap and paying a #2 overall pick.

A list of possible FA that might work for that. Whether they'd work here for that is another matter.

    Charlie Batch (June 1st cut)
Scott Mitchell (who we passed on already)
    Tony Banks
    Jeff George (two cancers)

I would feel comfortable with Charlie Batch. The guy has been OK with a patchwork line and banged up receivers.
