In Carolina's losing effort vs. the Pats, Panthers quarterback Chris Weinke appeared to be locked in to throwing the ball in wide receiver Steve Smith's direction -- a trend we hear didn't sit too well with No. 1 wide receiver Muhsin Muhammad.

We hear Panthers veteran defensive tackle Sean Gilbert, a longtime disappointment considering the price the team paid to get him, hasn't done much this preseason, which doesn't bode well for his future in Carolina. On the other side of the coin, sources say the Panthers have been most impressed with the play of third-year defensive end Al Wallace, who had a sack and a forced fumble in the first quarter of Carolina's preseason loss to New England.

I'm glad Moose is clamoring for the ball. 3 for 50 isn't a bad half's work, but when the offense is struggling I expect him to be someone to say "I can make it better." Of course, if you don't like Moose and want to read bad into it, it could be construed as whining.

We really do need to drop Gilbert.

Charles Chandler said on FNZ today that Moose, on any other team, would be the No. 2 receiver. I'm not so sure about that. Moose has to find that balance between being assertive and just being an ass.

well, if he's saying that most teams have a more talented receiver? No. There are few guys who could knock him to #2 and even then he'd get a good amount of balls. Harrison, Rod Smith, Rice, Moss, that type player.

Obviously, any team with a decent deep threat who's still a competent WR would be more of a star. He wouldn't overshadow a second-tier guy like Moulds or Galloway. But he'd be no less productive, he'd get no less attention, he'd still move the chains.

He's not an elite receiver. Never really will be - he'll be a second tier guy who won't carry an offense by himself. Nor should he. Put a legit receiver across from him that can also run under the deep ball and no one will be complaining - including Moose. He wasn't crying for the ball when Jeffers was hot, so I can understand when he complains when Steve Smith can't get open.

Yeah, I'm wishing we'd dumped Giblet two months ago when that money could have done us some good.

Moose has Jeff Lewis syndrome, only not so bad. I believe Moose has the talent to be a top 10 reciever in the NFL... perhaps even a top 5.

I say Jeff Lewis syndrome because he thinks to freakin much. Moose worries about "me" (meaning him)...

Moose needs to learn to not drop easy passes before he bitches. It happens WAY too often for him to be the #1 guy. Maybe he should lay off the chronic...
