WR Antonio Freeman won't be invited to the team's mandatory mini-camp in June, which strongly suggests that his days in Green Bay are over.

Chances are not good that we could sign Derrick Alexander or McCardell, what about Freeman. Not a long term solution, but he may not come as expensive as the other two. And he would certainly solidify the WR unit.

WR isn't a bigger concern to me as CB is at this point. We have Moose, Byrd, Smith, and Hankton (who is servicalbe) who are healthly along with Jeffers who wil be somewhat limited. The Tolhurst kid may turn out to be something. Rumors from minicamp have Fox none too pleased with CB. Cousin has started in the past and was good enough to keep Fletcher on the bench in Miami, so he'll man one slot. Jenkins isn't the answer and is no more than a nickle at best. Vinson is coming off two major knee injuries and may not have anything left. The two draftees are unknowns at this point and will need time to develop. A wiser investment of our limited funds would be an older vet with a year or two left in the tank such as Eric Davis who we should be able to sign to one of those 750K deals that only count 450K against the cap. Davis would not only serve as a starter, but as a teacher for the younger CBs.

just a question - if davis were to hired to start, would we be expected to pay him more than league min?

That all depends on what kind of demand there is for Davis' services (if there is any). The Panthers have a small advantage in Davis's case, his family is here and he wants to play near them. He might play for the minimum just to stay in area.

Back to the WR spot.......Anthony Bright was catching balls all over the place during minicamp. At this point I'd rather see them play young guys than bring in an older guy. I think you can get away with that at WR more so than at CB.

I've read several articles stating that Davis has stated that he will play in Carolina or retire. Last year he played for Vet minimum, and was limited to special teams and nickel back, so I cannot imagine paying him more than vet minimum.

I think CB is more important than WR.

I also think E.D. will be around in late August if our 9 young guys suck so bad we can't find 3 good ones.
