If we can use our cap situation to allow us to add a solid player at a fair price then we should do it. Sucking as bad as we did last season should earn us something.

seems like a sellers market this year... i'd hold off until next year and see what kind of salaries are being thrown around then. humphries isn't somebody you need to jump at to sign -- not when you have to be looking at 2 or 3 years of rebuilding. he won't sell any tickets. he won't put the team on his back and carry them. he'll work hard and get you a few wins, which is nice, but at this point i don't know that wins get the bobcats anything. they're starting from scratch, so they might as well go all in and play the lottery for a few more years.

Agreed but "if" you could sign Humphries to a contract that is in line with his talent (he played last year for 8 mil I think) he could make them better and still have cap space to play with while not having to worry about leave lotteryville anytime soon. Eventually the ping pong gods have to smile on us since the league hasn't taken care of the Hornets for a while :42:

I think if you can get a young guy where the pay = the skill level, then that's ok to do. I don't think they need to take on bad contracts or overpay though. They are going to have to sign guys at some point, I understand waiting on the lottery picks, but those are never a given to work out as the talent you expect. With that said, I would much rather rent AJ for a few years, but you gotta do something for the front court.

Why does that article say that J.J. Hickson would "command far more money than Humphries"? That's idiotic. Hickson won't get anywhere near as much as Humphries will. Is the author so clueless about basketball that he doesn't know the Kings bought out Hickson last season, which is why he's a free agent?

And fuck no, the Bobcats shouldn't be giving a four year contract to Humphries when they're already paying Tyrus Thomas.

or they just see how tyrus thomas responds to a new system. they're paying him one way or the other, so they might as well see if he feels like playing. they can cut him any time they want to, so he's essentially on a permanent 10-day contract. once they need the space, boom -- he's gone.

if they take on any contracts to help anybody out, they need to get picks or young talent. that's the beauty of being under the cap -- you take on a couple stinker contracts and collect some firsts or grab a rising star for your efforts. that requires spending money, tho, which isn't something jordan seems interested in doing...

But now there's a minimum that team have to be at and they still have money they "Have" to spend.... I believe

I didn't mention cutting Thomas, even if Thomas comes back and plays well in the new system and you have BB at center, and well Mullins do whatever it is that he does, you still need at least one more big man. If the right opportunity comes up, they need to do it instead of waiting and hoping the lottery bails them out before making any moves at all.

The Bobcats got in trouble a few years ago by taking on bad contracts. Hopefully they learned from that experience and won't repeat it.

I would not advocate taking on a bad contract. I am not sure what a guy like Humphries is worth. I would not mind seeing him here if he signed for the appropriate amount of money relative to the talent he brings.

Thomas seems like a waste of flesh to me. I guess they should give him another shot in the new system but he has never shown any heart since he has been in the NBA. He could be an all star if he worked hard.
