Free Agency

I read a rumor that we are interested in Eric Gordon. I am not sure that would make sense for us.

 

yeah, they'd end up in the same boat as miami in that they'd be kind of crippled in terms of filling out the rest of their roster. they'd have their big three and one 2nd tier dude (wallace vs haslem) and "the rest". they'd have to hope to attract people with mid level exemptions and vet min contracts.

 

Seems like the nets would be in worse shape cap wise with 3 guys with max deals (assuming Howard and Williams both get max deals) along with Johnson's over payment. Although derron Williams makes anyone better. Kind of surprised Miami hasn't gone after Nash with the money they are offering ray allen

 

i think getting allen is a double whammy -- he's not on a contender and they get him. nash, i suppose, could end up on a contender, but it's unlikely. besides, wade and lebron operate best with the ball in their hands. i think they'd be better with nash, but they'd have to completely change their games.

if the nets could get those dudes, they'd be a pretty tough team. miami's "big three" all kind of overlap in the sf-pf range. the nets' version would have a dominant pg, a dominant center, and a dominant sg/sf who can shoot the three. very little overlap and dominance at two of the most important positions.

 

I was thinking the same thing and as good as Williams is the "extras" the Nets sign will perform better as they'll get the ball in better situations. Unlike what chalmers does in miami

Since NO drafted Rivers maybe they let Gordon go?

 

Yeah, I don't see them keeping him, so pretty sure he will go to the Suns.

 

I doubt it, he was the key piece in the Chris Paul trade

 

Johnson's contract is way over the current max. It's a longshot that they could fit Howard even if Orlando accepted their offer, but I think the reason they have a chance is the ability to go over the cap to re-sign their own. So if they brought in Howard & Johnson first before re-signing Williams and Wallace then I guess it works. They'd have to pay huge luxury tax, but their owner is a Russian billionaire.
