It looks like FOX is selling their O&O stations in smaller markets. Would RAYCOM be interested? That’s a lot of TV stations out there for sale if Lincoln Financial puts their radio/TV stations up for sale.

KC’s Fox 4 among nine stations News Corp. plans to sell

    The Associated Press

Rupert Murdoch’s News Corp., which is making a $5 billion bid for Wall Street Journal publisher Dow Jones & Co., has said it planned to sell nine of its Fox-affiliated TV stations.

The nine stations are WDAF in Kansas City; WJW in Cleveland; KDVR in Denver; KTVI in St. Louis; WITI in Milwaukee; KSTU in Salt Lake City; WBRC in Birmingham, Ala.; WHBQ in Memphis; and WGHP in Greensboro, N.C.

The stations are generally in the smallest markets among News Corp.’s 35-station television group. They are also not in one of the nine cities in which the company owns two stations. Owning pairs of stations in the same city, also referred to as a duopoly, can save broadcasters money by combining back-office and technical operations.

News Corp. spokesman Andrew Butcher declined to provide revenues, cash flows or other financial metrics for the stations which would help provide a determination of the potential price they might fetch. He declined to elaborate on the planned sale.

News Corp. had $7.3 billion in cash as of the end of March, according to its most recent financial report filed with the Securities and Exchange Commission. News Corp. has offered to pay for Dow Jones either with cash or a combination of cash and securities.

Raycom is too busy figuring out ways to deprive all of us of HD broadcasts to respond

Rumor is that CBS might buy the FOX stations. FOX wants to sell them as a group if possible.

Could CBS buy them all? WOuldn't that put them over the cap (FCC limits how many O&O stations a company can own. I forgot what the number was though). Do you would have to include their CW stations also. Those count also).

    CBS Owned & Operated Television Stations: KCBS | KCNC | KDKA | KEYE1 | KOVR | KPIX | KTVT | KUTV1 | KYW | WBBM | WBZ | WCBS | WCCO | WFOR | WJZ | WWJ

    CW Owned & Operated Television Stations: KBCW | KMAX | KSTW | WGNT | WKBD | WLWC1 | WPCW | WPSG | WTOG | WTVX1 | WUPA

Independent Television Stations: KCAL | KTXA | WSBK

In Charlotte, WBTV is already CBS so that would be an easy adjustment. Up in the Triad, WFMY-TV (2) is CBS (owned by Gannett I think). Hmmmmmmmmmmm, WGHP (currently FOX 8) becomes CBS and then maybe ABC (which I'm sure hates being on low powered WLXV-TV45) would jump at the chance to try and get WFMY to switch to ABC. I guess FOX then would go back being on Channel 45 like they were in the late 80's/early 90's before WGHP (which was ABC for years) became a FOX O&O in 1995 . .

    Confusing, ain't it :D :D ? ? ?
