been trying to say that myself. JR is more big picture, but I don't think an entire team of coaches and front office guys goes to Miami to talk to Rosenhaus guys CJ and DW because JR wanted to go bargain.

And, certainly, he hired Fox because of what he'd put together starting in 01, defense, OL, running game. He started worrying about the passing game in '10, and here we are. In each situation, he hung out to dry a coach he'd already decided on.

The interesting thing is, schematically, what we'd been prior to those changes probably wouldn't have worked out much differently than what was decided needed to happen.

And, the upside is that right about now is when JR starts backing off.

Yes he hired Fox & Capers for the same reason... to be more like the Steelers. He gave Capers too much power and Fox not enough

the Steeler thing gets overblown. Numerous other chances to go steal the Steeler way and not taken. Certainly didn't hire Grimm, certainly wasn't worried about the Steelers' way of doing things in '99 when that wasn't what was big.

It's somewhat of a copycat league, so you try to pick up the best of what you can from that. Or you react to what you just let go and steer the other way, in some situations.

I will give Hurney/Rivera/JR credit for drafting Cam Newton. That worked out great and it took balls to pull the trigger on it.

I can't think of anything else that has happened since then that has impressed me. Certainly the offense has been better but you add a quality QB and open it up then you are going to score more points. It did not translate into more wins though. 6-10 is nothing to write home about.

I don't buy that Fox would not have drafted Cam Newton had he stayed... He wanted Michael Vick when he was available... it's not like he has a problem with QB's that can move

Fox made it clear after they lost to the Seahawks in the NFCC after going 12-4, the writing was on the wall about the future of this team, they did not agree on a winning formula, and he was no longer a part of personnel decisions.

Please point me towards comments he made, that support your assertion. I'd like to see them, I mean he stayed for five more seasons.
