On the pre-game Howie Long was saying the Foster is made for a "stretch/sweep" type of offense, not a up the middle/between the tackles offense. We either change our running style and keep him of find a back the fits the between the tackles style better.

I'd like to keep him for something like a 4yr/$10mm deal.

I don't think resigning Foster is a bad idea if the Offense changes direction slightly to accomodate his strengths. He's solid on the Draw and anything outside and he's developing some patience to set up blocks on the inside runs. He'll never be a true power type back Hennings scheme caters to because he is too upright.
However, if the offense counters it's current balance and flips the ratio of outside/inside runs, Foster could be very effective and this team could really be good for a few years. When he's started he's run pretty good and we haven't seen the tendancy to fumble this year.
If not for Shelton also being an upright type, we'd have a nice 1-2 option there. Hopefully, if we resign Foster, Shelton can alter his inside game and become the thunder to Foster's lightning.

It doesn't matter who we have at RB if we don't develope some consistency on the O-line and find a #2 WR with some balls. Still hoping Colbert snaps the fuck out of it, but I ain't about to post a bet on it. Carter looks promising and if he can bulk up another 10 pnds or so, he could be that Moose-type blocking presence we would like to have back out there. I noticed Carter threw a couple nice ones today, not punishing blocks but he was positioned perfectly.

He may not have much heart when it is NOT gut check time. But when it is, he has more than anyone. Did you see the playoffs in 2003. Remember Davis was out in the Philly game, and controlling the clock was our key to victory!

Re-signing Foster would be dumb. As Piper said, he's too upright (which will not change at his age), he's injury-prone, he doesn't get the tough yards, and you can't count on him. Taking almost any of the RBs that will be available in the third or fourth round of this year's draft would be better than re-signing Foster.

re-signing Foster is not going to take a huge amount of money IMO

we have Shelton, but I still see us drafting another back, if Foster leaves, we'll have to draft one and find one in FA...Foster would be more valuable than anybody we could find in FA because he knows the offense, outside of Edge & Alexander

tiki barber seemed to change his style of carrying the ball at a later age. drilling someone to death about lowering the shoulder isn't out of the question.

i hope he stays,i love me some banana'a foster!!i just hope if we keep him,we can change our running philosophy to accomodate his running style, delayed draws, screen passes, off tackle more and less over center.

this guy (if healthy) could put up LT,marshal faulk, kind of numbers.
amd jake would have a field day keeping the defenses guessing

Barber changed the way he held the ball, not the way he ran with it.

and fassell was able to change kerry collins throwing motion as well. although it seems he's reverted back somewhat. not out of the question to change foster.
