I don't think anyone saw him coming. The only time anyone brought this up was in uneducated questions along the 'net that were quickly dismissed (oops).

I do expect that this simply means that the team's dedicated to Foster (gulp) and that they'll sign him to a long term deal whenever possible (esp for cap purposes - $5 mil for Foster makes my anus hurt).

Addai, IMO, doesn't fit. He's a lot like Foster (and I do like him), but it just depends on whether they want another slasher all purpose guy, or a big back (off chance they see Shelton in this role, but I wouldn't make plans on the idea that they do).

Not always. Cinci T-tagged Spikes, and let him walk for what Buffalo wanted. But he made it clear he didn't want Cinci to match, so that might be a bad example.

Holy shit I hate this deal except for one part. Maybe the front office got wind of another specific team that really had a hard on for him and thinks they can trade him for a draft pick. Foster wanted out. No way in hell he deserves 5+ million a year IMO

97% likely he's our starting back in camp at this point. about 90% likely we still seek out a back.

I think this deal is just for strategy on the Panther's part.

One year deal at 5 mil. This is just to delay or give more time to work out a real contract if:
    a. noboby makes him a better offer, which they probably will not.
    b. gives the team a chance to see whether there's not a better long term option out there. If there is a good RB who they like then the team has a good tandum and are not obligated to Foster but for a single year.
    c. or gives the team a chance to develope a RB along side of injury prone Foster for a year.

    Seems good to me.

Does Foster have to agree to this?

In other words - is this done, or can either party back out?

Won't $5 million at foster cause cap problems?

    Buh-bye Davis.

    Well, he can sit out.

We offer him a one year tender. He doesn't have to sign, and likely won't. He can negotiate with other teams. If he agrees to terms with said other team, we have a decision to make. Match it, or let him go. If we decide to match, he can either play for us or sit out.

Kinda wonder if this is a precurser of what the Panthers staff thinks will happen with the CBA and the chance of an un capped year. They may feel that a cap will be in place and that 5 mil might end up in line when the final number shake out.

    or not.

5 mil for Foster and another london load for Morgan earlier last season :thud:

Can I get a quality healthy player resigned please????
