if they knew how to find a good football coach in the first place, we wouldn't be having this disussion.

where has this team showed improvement?

like i said, i'm all for them getting their asses kicked -- every game needs a loser -- but don't pretend that you're going to be challenging for a national title, much less an ACC title, much less a division title -- anytime with bunting.

it's just not going to happen.

just clean things up and get your ass out of the cellar of the national statistics. if it's your lot in life to be losers (though i thought that was duke's role), then at least lose with pride.

If Bunting backs up his talk, and I'm talking about smack talk or anything, he'll turn it around. Some programs just don't respond well to coaching changes.

and look how quickly he cashed that in and got the hell out of chapel hill. he could have built a dynasty there. that would have been a 9-win school year in and year out.

brown started off 2-20, i think.

i like unc. i want them to do well. i like all of the acc teams. i want all of them to do well.

but this bottom-feeder shit has got to go.

Should I post the lecture I really want to give you Larry? Or should I just gently point out that not everyone can be FSU? You sound as bad as I do in NOTD sometimes with your belief that you know what is best for everyone (here it's UNC). In this case, it's not even your program. You sound like a Bama booster for heaven's sake.

i just can't believe that there's not outrage in chapel hill. that somehow, someway, it's ok to have one fucking win in november.

    gross.

if any unc fans want to, they can tell me to fuck off.

how sad is it that a hokie has to do the talking for the tar heels.

they don't give a rats ass about football. i just want them to say it out loud instead of reading that crap that mick wrote. that's bullshit. there should be outrage in chapel hill. instead, it's "oh, well. darn. i hope we get better. this coach sure recruits well. and he sure is a warm fellow. and he looks like he's always coaching."

    yee freaking ha.

where's the improvement? where's the hope?

do you guys seriously think that recruits will still go there if he keeps sucking ass?

thank god for miami and virginia tech. there will be a hint of football respectability coming into the conference.

tar heels, by you not being outraged at this trainwreck of a program, you are admitting that football doesn't mean squat to you. so quit pretending and tell mick to shove that drivel up his baby blue ass and talk about a REAL SPORT -- BASKETBALL!

not everyone has to be fsu, but you don't have to have one win in november and be the worst deense in the freaking country.

hell, look at wake -- that's respectable.

That I would completely agree with. Grob has been successful due to stability. Most of his coaching staff has been with him for 10 years or so and that helps.

As for Mack bolting Chapel Hill as soon as he got successful, I would lay a lot of that blame on everyone's favorite athletic director, Dick Daddour. He certainly doesn't have to worry about anything being named after him in Chapel Hill, other than the men's pissing facilites in Kenan Stadium.

OK. Fuck off. Your ramblings are pretty pathetic and where were they 2 years ago when UNC punked your big, bad Seminoles 41-9?

Do we suck this year - yep. Not trying to argue that. But I was there when we experienced the lowest of the low - when Navy just beat the hell out of us in the 2nd half on a cold and rainy day in Kenan. That's right, Navy manhandled us. I believe it was Mack's first year. It was fucking pathetic.

Now, as to why I am not bitching and whining as much as you are about all of this. Let's leave out for a moment the fact that none of our players has been busted for betting on games, writing bad checks, getting free shit, etc - and that many of these infractions didn't even warrant suspensions by your babysitter because the players were good and the game was big.

As I said before, the guy can coach. If you don't think so, ask yourself what happened to the Rams defense the year after he left. They went from like number 3 in the NFL to number 25. Obviously, his departure had nothing to do with that. His first year, he also took basically the same group of guys that had gone 3-8 and took them to 6-5.

Second, overall, Torbush recruited for shit. Yes, he got Durrant and a couple of others, buit overall he was a disaster. There are almost no upperclassmen contributing - and whether you like it or not, even Jesus Bowden couldn't take a bunch of Freshmen and Sophmores and turn them into a winner. Bunting got schooled by Amato in his first recruiting go-round. he learned from it and brought in a nationally ranked class last year. I think we look pretty good so far this year as well, but I don't follow recruiting all that much.

So, basically that leaves us with two options - get rid of the guy, bring in somebody new, who will have to start from scratch and which could likely strart a cycle of firing/hiring every three years or so and never giving one guy a chance to establish himself. Or, we can give Bunting another year or two and assess him based on improvement as well as results.

So, spare me your sanctimonious crap about us not caring for just a few seconds. We care - we care a lot actually, but please do not confuse a reluctance to act in haste or panic into a decision with apathy. Please see Beamer, Frank; Smith, Dean; Brown, Mack (who'da thunk it); etc.

So why don't you worry about your basketball program, and we'll worry about our football program.

Oh, and one more thing. To rag UNC football this year takes about as much guts as it took Jimmy Spencer to hit Kurt Busch while he was strapped into his car with his helmet off.

Thanks, VP. That's the speech I needed to hear. It's right up there with Bluto!

I went to my first UNC games when Dooley was there. I sat in Kenan when Miami of Ohio whooped up on us in Dick Crum's first year. I was there for the rise to repectability with LT and KB only to see it all come tumbling down again. Being a Tarheel football fan is having to learn to deal with dashed hopes and instability.

I truly do want to believe in Bunting. I like the man. I'm not going to call for his head over this year. We're still suffering from the Torbush debacle and I'm not talking about Carl's coaching. I'm talking about an AD who damn near guaranteed poor recruiting years with his indecision and lack of leadership. I don't want to see the coaching carousel with Ringmaster Dickie in any of our sports ever again.

One other thing, leave Spencer out of it. Kurt had it coming. :)
