So not counting UCLA and Michigan since they aren't really recent powerhouses in both.

My point is you aren't going to find too many schools that will be consistantly good in both major sports. One sport is always going to play second fiddle to the other. Well the ACC pre-expansion is a basketball conference.

Most of the schools in the ACC and other conferences are only going to support one sport with 100% of what they need. The second sport may get 90%, 80% or whatever the case may be, but not 100% of what they need to be successful. The reasons vary(tradition, financial, demographics, who knows) as to why this is.

Now keep what I said with the ACC being a basketball conference, if you think back to pre-FSU, you could make the arguement the ACC was the best basketball conference. Today I still feel the ACC is in the top 3 or 4, but not always the best.

Since FSU joined, the remaining ACC schools have had to divide their resources to compete with FSU, although not very successful, but we have seen somewhat of a decline in basketball.

    Just a theory!

What all do you need to be successful in football or a lot of them at least:

    1) Great coach
    2) Great recruiting
    3) Great facilities
    4) Booster support - financial backing from school as well
    5) What else?

You are just jerking me around now Larry. Make the bet or leave it alone.

    Here's why:
If you will go through the other 42 or so teams I offered you for the bet, you will see that UNC is THE ONLY TEAM IN THE LAST 13 YEARS OF THE 42 TO ACHIEVE THE LEVEL THAT YOU THINK IS POSSIBLE TO ACHIEVE. I've already looked it up. Wisconsin came close. Ga Tech came close. Ga Tech's coach promptly left for greener pastures.

I'd call that a blind squirrel finding the one nut it's gonna find. Not a shining example of how it's possible to find the right coach if you just look hard enough. If it were possible, 40 other teams just might have had it happen to them in a 5 year span over the last 15 years too. Funny how that never happened.

You wanna keep harping on the blind luck of UNC stumbling on Brown as "proof"? Fine. I call it blind ass luck since there are another 40 teams out there that back what I say.

So if you are right, make the bet. Don't know about anyone else, but I can't help but notice that this is the point where the bullshit stops.

VP - Don't make the bet. You can't win it. I'm talking BCS conferences.

    8.4 wins in five years?

We aren't just talking regular season wins, right?

How much are we talking about.

Hence the clarification before I bet, cause I was gonna small conference you and take your money. :D

Seriously though, I think that this should - once and for all - lay to rest the myth that UNC cannot be a top notch football school. As I said before, the commitment is there and so are the resources. If Mack had not left - and really, can you blame him for doing so? - UNC would probably have continued that trend and been in that upper echelon you are talking about. Like I said, there weren't many calls (maybe 2-3?) that could have gotten him to leave Chapel Hill, but he got one of them that did.

    That sucks, but it's life.

Holding you to those 16 teams, I think I can. I need to look at a couple of PAC-10 teams schedules first.

I might still make it for a couple of beers or something just for fun. I mean, that is 5 years of guaranteed shit talking for what, 10 bucks. Can't beat that with a stick.
