Rich, a buddy of mine that came with me to the TBR party in Nov 02, called last night. He had been having a "heavy feeling" in his balls for several months and "it felt funny." When it got to the point he couldn't walk, he finally went to the doctor.

A biopsy later, he was told he had testicular cancer.

    He's 34.

They removed one of his balls and put in an artificial one. He's had 10 radiation treatments and has 10 to go. He had a CT scan last week and there is no evidence of spreading.

He's lucky by his thinking. But I keep thinking that maybe he could have saved his nut had he gone to the doctor when he first noticed the problem.

During a nice hot shower is the best time to check for anything unusual with your balls. Testicular cancer is becoming more of a young man's disease lately.

If you are unsure of how to check yourself, a yahoo or google search for 'testicular cancer' will find you one of many web sites that can educate you.

ah I forgot you met him at Bele Chere. I will. He sounds good but I won't be content till I check him out myself. He's a tough ole redneck mountain boy and minimizes everything. I'm going over to Knoxville next weekend.

Good thing about being married to an R.N. is that she can check this for me and it is more pleasurable than doing it myself. :)

Actually thanks for the advise Fred. I know I'm still in the younger group but 34 isn't too far off. I hope no one ruins this thread, because stuff like this needs to be discussed.

I knew a guy who had this done when he was 17. He has one removed and had the chemo and stuff related to it. He had made a full recover and was cancer free last time I heard anything about it. Scary stuff though for sure.

does getting/not getting a "release" on a regular basis decrease/increase your chances of getting this?

does years worth of blue balls mean anything in corelation to testicular cancer?

would men who workout on/ride bicycles be more at risk for it?

is this a genetic thing or what?

    regular releases reduce the chance

I would think so but have never seen any stats on it

    genetic and random luck

This is horrid Fred - I hope Rich gets over it okay and stays cancer free. While you boys get things checked `down there' don't forget your prostate ;).
