    ...I weigh under 300 lbs.

Last week was my first appointment with a bariatric specialist (weight loss doc) that my GP referred me to a couple of months ago. He's going to teach me how to eat much healthier, exercise more efficiently, and has me on 2 meal replacements a day. I have appointments coming up with a nutritionist and a fitness consultant to fine tune my eating habits and exercise regimen.

My goal weight is 235, and if the program works as promised, I should reach that goal on my next birthday.

    I... am... stoked.

    :woohoo:

This is really awesome HB! How long have you been doing it? Tell me about the meal replacements - do you get hungry or is it more "head hungry" than a physical hunger?
    Sorry for the questions :(.

Cool beans though - congratulations and I can't wait to hear more on how you're doing :woot:.

Did you have surgery or are you just taking meds and changing your diet and exercise patterns?

I started the program on Saturday, 9/9.

Some of both, honestly, but a LOT more psychological than physical. Most of that is due to having hypoglycemia. Before the program, when I even started to get hungry, my blood sugar level would drop through the floor, and I'd get a moderate to severe headache and be pissed off at the world. Consequently, I became almost afraid to get hungry.

But the meal replacements are balancing my blood sugar like I can't believe, so now being a little hungry is no big deal. It feels kind of good, actually.

As far as the replacements themselves, they work a lot like the SlimFast system -- a "shake" for breakfast, a "shake" for lunch, and then a "sensible" dinner. This is far better, though, both functionally and nutritionally. They're made by a company called New Direction. Basically, it's just a packet of a flavored powder you mix with about 12 ounces of water. It's surprising how satisfying they are, and how long they keep my appetite at bay.
