I do sin a lot and I do have to ask for forgiveness. Chrisitians do have to try to avoid sin though. If you can sin with no remorse then you are not a christian. God will chasten those who belong to him.

Do you ever repeat the same sin twice?

There is a difference between what you are describing and habitually committing the same sin.

Regardless of that aspect of it, you have to admit that your sin is a sin in order to get forgiveness for it. If you do not see anything wrong with what you are doing then there is no way to get forgiveness for it.

If one is trying to avoid sin and stumbles and repeats the same sin then that person is at least trying and that process is part of growing as a christian. If one is not trying to avoid sin and is simply doing it over and over with no remorse then one is not trying and it is not going result in any spiritual growth.

I would compare it to a recovering alcoholic who decideds to have a drink and an alcoholic who is not recovering and goes out and gets smashed every night.

I think it is a big differnce. Those who belong to Christ are guided by him and experience guilt at displeasing him. Those who are not his do not experience this process. Just like most of us do, we discipline our own children but not those that belong to someone else.

And I don't. People know damn well that something is a sin when they are doing it and go ahead and do it anyway - then ask for forgiveness later.

God knows this - but he loves all of us enough that he sent his only begotten Son down here to die for us.

He's not expecting you not to sin - He's just expecting you to ask Him for forgiveness after it. And if you do that and accept Jesus as your Savior, you'll be seeing St. Peter.

Every single person in the world runs afoul of this one "Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools" like 18 times a day.

So you think if a person accepts Christ he can sin without remorse or conviction?
