Flu shots take 2 weeks to actually kick in and then they're a 3 month shot. That's why I wait til the end of November so I know it's working in January/February - prime flu months.

Every summer the CDC makes the vaccine for the strain of flu they THINK will be hitting the US that winter. And Coops is right, it last about 3-4 months.

They had Yancey County schools closed for a week up here in the mtns already for an outbreak. Around here, it tends to hit in Dec/Jan.

Yikes....The stuff isn't anything to play with. I remember one year when I got it (didn't get the flu shot - stupid me!) and it put me down for two weeks. I don't think I ate for like 5 days and could barely move from the bed to the chair to watch tv or do anything. It was just plain awful. Doctor recommends it for me because of my asthma and because of my work.

(knock on wood) I have never had the flu other then what I got from a flu shot. Back in the early 70's I had to have the flu shot because of where I was living. I believe it was because of the swine flu? As far as not getting the flu from the shot--------cant prove it by me. I along with a few of the other girls was not sick in any way before we got the shot. We got the shot in the morning and by the afternoon we were sick in bed with fevers, puking and a host of other things for three to four days. Us girls werent the only ones either. Some of the adults and boys from the other houses that got that shot come down sick also. Ever since then when someone says I need to get a flu shot-----I run and hide because I in no way ever want to feel like I did back then again.

My dad couldn't get the flu shot back in the day because it would make him sicker than a dog. The shots back them were live shots and now they are not. Some people do complain of having the side effect of feeling yucky, but I personally have never had any side effects after I've gotten one.
