Flag Football Tournament

Discussion in 'Carolina Panthers' started by Captain Morgan, Sep 20, 2002.

  1. The flag football tournament benefiting the family of my friend Donnie Vernon, who passed away on September 7, 2002 at the age of 23, will take place at Catawba College in Salisbury beginning at 9am sharp Saturday September 28. Three games will begin at 9, so please try to be out there by 8:30.

Refreshments will be available for sale, and Schlotzky's in Salisbury is donating water for players (thanks Bunky!). Those of you who played last time, please bring your gray shirts. For new people, please wear a gray Tshirt. We're guaranteed 3 games, so plan on being there a while. It's $20 per player and we're also having a raffle so bring your old crinkled up singles.

Catawba College is located at 2300 W. Innes Street, approximately 4 miles off of Interstate 85 at exit 76B which is Innes (Salisbury, not Albemarle exit). Catawba will be on the left after passing through Salisbury. The practice fields are beyond the football stadium at the back of the campus.

Who all is playing on the TRB team?

How many people show up for this thing?

  5. I've a tournament as large as 13 teams with 12 people each, and as small as a single game with two teams of 16 each (last month). This time, I'm expecting several hundred people over the 2 days because Donnie was a pretty popular guy around here (Salisbury). Catawba has a bye week, so their entire football team will be there, the coaches, some teachers, people from his church, co-workers, etc.

Sunday I'm expecting 5 or 6 teams from the league Donnie ran in Salisbury.

so what happens? everybody just shows up?

  7. This one is a bit different. Saturday there will be a few teams (like TBR people, Donnie's ex teammates, church groups, etc.) who will play together, but aren't really organized teams. Mostly, the games will be "pick up." Sunday there are several organized teams who play in leagues that have signed up. If you're coming, find me at the "DJ booth" and I'll direct you to the TBR team.
