field of dreams - i think the main reason this film works is because kevin costner and james earl jones don't know if they should believe in the fantasy, ghosts and magic -- just like us. when they finally buy it, we do, too. it's a fantasticly woven story that never jumps too far at once and in the end you can't believe you're caring about ghosts.

caddyshack - national lampoon at its absolute finest. so many memorable lines that we say them without even thinking what we're quoting: "Cinderella story... outta nowhere, a former greenskeeper now about to become the Masters champion." and " 'Hey, Lama, hey! How 'bout a little somethin', you know, for the effort, you know?' And he says, 'Oh, there won't be any money. But when you die, on your deathbed, you will receive total consciousness.' So I got that goin' for me... which is nice." and "You take drugs, Danny? Every day. Good." and "Be the ball, Danny, be the ball. Na-na-na-na-na-na-na-na."

major league - misfits and losers win the pennant for the cleveland indians. i've watched this movie a ton of times and i STILL find something to laugh at. isn't it strange that since the movie came out, the indians have been pretty decent? i give all the credit to jobu. "up your butt, jobu." -- classic!

bull durham - nuke and crash both like a slut. :) this film works because it's more about romance than sports. it's great to see a sports movie that doesn't climax with "THE BIG GAME". heck, these guys didn't even finish on the same team. i like tim robbins and this is one of kevin costner's best movies (which are few and far between).

slapshot - "fucking machine took my quarter!" and that's how we meet the hanson brothers. a shifty paul newman acts like he's on speed the entire movie and the characters are as quirky as they come. i tried to watch this on network tv once, but they had to beep out -- i swear to god -- half the dialogue. it was unbearable.

bang the drum slowly - i don't mean to like so many baseball movies, but this is an american classic. deniro before he was deniro. danny aiello's debut. michael moriarty WAY before law and order. it's not uplifting, but it's a great insight into the dynamics of a team. i often find myself singing in my head, "bang the drum slowly..."

dead solid perfect - totally underrated sports movie. tin cup sucked ass compared to how well this movie protrays the life of a guy struggling to keep his pga tour card. randy quaid is awesome. one of my favorite lines is when the rich folks are sitting around the table and they're debating what blacks want to be called. they setle on "ethnics." good movie, folks.

hoosiers - gene hackman, dennis hopper and barbara hershey turn in fantastic performances in a nearly flawless film. even if it is about basketball. :) it's fairly predictible as we know how it's going to end up, but it's a very fulfilling ride.

I don't know about favorites, but 'Mighty Ducks' and 'Victory' come to mind as movies I've enjoyed.

It's full of stupid one liners and overblown cartoonish characters, but "The Program" has some damn dine hitting... and Halle Berry.

Speaking of Omar Epps, Love and Basketball was pretty good too.
