I am not saying Smith is not still really good but he had a crazy good year last year. It was up there with Jerry Rice's best so there was probably no way he would match that this year.

From what I've seen, I'd lean toward putting this season's headaches almost entirely on poor execution by the players. I just haven't seen any "What the F*** are we doing, Dan?" moments this year. I am seeing a lot of poor blocking, poor decision making, dropped balls, blown coverages and missed tackles, though.

I'm sure it is to Foster, too, when he keeps hitting Wahle's/Mathis'/Hangartner's back when there should be a hole there.

If we could execute the running plays it is a certainty that more would be called. Lots of 3rd and longs indicates poor execution either run or pass.

Considering we have had a lead in all but one of our games going into the fouth quarter it would seem like we would have more rushing attempts even if our YPC is not good.

Well said. There are always decisions that you can second guess, like running the draw at midfield on our first series Monday night. In the end, though, it comes down to execution. If the players are dropping touchdown passes, 3rd down conversions, and whiffing on run blocks, then it really doesn't matter how well the OC calls the game.

Thelt, what's you point about Smith? We've all seen him play, and we've all seen him drops passes that he caught last year. That's not on Henning.

My point is that Henning's offense sucks this year and it sucked last year as well. You just could not tell it sucked as much last year because Smith having a monster year covered it up.

In Baltimore, our sources tell us that the Fassel-Billick relationship had been coming apart for weeks before completely disintegrating after the Week Six loss to Carolina.

The way we hear it, Billick and Fassel had been jockeying for power over the offense for much of the season. Fassel called the plays, but Billick had plenty of input — too much for Fassel’s comfort. Making matters worse, some players didn’t respect Fassel’s work ethic, and they told Billick as much, according to one source. With the offense again near the bottom of the league statistically, Billick decided to fire Fassel during the team’s bye week.

Billick will assume the coordinator’s duties for the Ravens. He will call the plays, and he will lead the offensive game-planning. The way we hear it, owner Steve Bisciotti likes this arrangement, even though Fassel is owed $2 million in salary because he was fired, according to The Baltimore Sun.
