Panthers | Fair Landed - posted at KFFL (http://nfl.kffl.com)
19:00 PT: Len Pasquarelli reports for ESPN.com the Carolina Panthers have agreed to a contract with free agent CB Terry Fair (Lions). He will sign a one-year contract that could be worth up to $1.2 million. Agent Reggie Smith said Fair's decision came down to the Panthers and the Baltimore Ravens. "He's not a 'nickel' back," Smith said. "He's a starter and he would have gotten a chance to start at both places. He just got off a plane and decided that Carolina was the right place."

Why not. He's a starter caliber corner, and a playmaker with the ball in his hands, and we need both of those. But he has to stay healthy.

Howard and Cousins better step it up.

    Great news.

i just hate we didn't get him for more than a year.

There are a couple of other negatives on Fair aside from the injury he's still not 100% recovered from.

His work ethic is reportedly not so hot. For a #1 pick (20 overall) he has really underachieved.
He's only 5'9". Pair him with Cousins and we have two squirts on their tiptoes against guys like Keyshawn. You can't teach height.
Other than that I guess we should be jumping up and down . . . I know our starting corners will be (trying to defend against guys 4 to 7 inches taller!).

No doubt. And that's why it's a one year deal. Play well, a contract will come.

Great! Out of all the curious moves the past week this one makes sence. Let Fair also return punts and get Byrd back in as number 3 WR

My hope is that Wesley gets back soon and develops quickly. If he were ready to start by December and Howard continues to improve then we would have a couple of full-sized CB’s as starters and play guys like Cousin and Fair in nickel and dime . . . where they belong.)

In that scenario we can spend that high draft pick and/or that FA cash on other positions next year.:D

Wesley has a long way to go. I'm not sure we will see much of him this year.

This one would rank as a top FA signing IMO. If he is healthy that is. Fair can start for us and is a playmaker. Good signing.
