Now that we have about a million pics of my son, i figured we better back up all that stuff. I was looking on ebay, but can anybody suggest a good external hard drive, size and price.

I was wrestling with the same decision a few months ago. We have taken pictures with film since early 2000. So what would we do if the hard drive crashed or there was a house fire?

I decided to go with a remote backup host just for the pictures and music I have stored on the PC. I'd heard about carbonite, but actually went with sugarsync.

I bought 2 (1 terabyte each) Western Digital Externals during a after Thanksgiving sale at Target for 59 piece. Too good of a deal to pass up. I'd get similar size and name brand and stay away from Maxtor. I have had two and neither lasted me more than 2 years. Nowadays you can pickup a terabyte most places for <100.00 in town or cheaper online at places like newegg, tigerdirect. In the interim why not burn the pics to a DVD?

i have 3 external hard drives with different stuff on them... been over 6 months since I looked on them, and now none of them will mount.... just sayin

shutterfly, which i have been applying for jobs and had interviews with, based her in charlotte, offer free online storage of your photos... the facilty in charlotte is the 4th largest digital print facility in the world... if they combined their arizona plant, they would be the largest... i don't think they're going anywhere for a while

plus they have some great stuff you can do with your pictures

With hard drives you gotta remember it's never if, but when. They will all fail eventually.
