Can anyone make an argument for why this is a good idea?

No good reason but as for the reason see Florida State last season. It's just a way for the big conferences to get more of their marginal teams in the dance. In other words, it's about more money.

What really baffles me is that 96 teams make it to the NCAA and the NIT combined, so you have 32 MORE teams that wouldn't even be invited to play in the expanded version of last year's NIT to play in the NCAA tournament. There is no way that the bottom 28 teams have winning records. Don't mess with college basketball, nothing is wrong! If they end up expanding it at all I'll be pissed. Leonard Hamilton has to be one of the people behind this.

This is absolutely ridiculous. What a joke. Well, teams like Wake Forest have to find some way to get in I guess..
