"Safety Jarrod Cooper came up with the hit of the day, plowing over running back Joe Montgomery as he attempted to turn the corner. "

Just like in hockey, every team needs a Goon. Is Jarrod Cooper our Goon? I watched last season's Panther vs Redskins game this weekend and was a reminded of Cooper's ejection. Who else in the league does he remind you most of? There are a number of quality safeties that make WR hesitate going across the middle against. Does Cooper have what it takes to command that type of respect one day?

You mean someone like Floyd to get unsportsman like conduct late in the game to take us out of scoring position? No.

Minter, Morgan, Cooper, I think they can lay clean hits just fine.

I get your point though, I just care for the goon terminology. Goon/Thug to me means broze not brains. Team speed, quickness and physical is what I like. Putting yourself in position to make the play, and making it.

And Cooper was wrongfully thrown out of that game. He needs to work on not getting caught is all.

in some respects, yes. He's definately a situational guy - possibly a guy you put in the nickel as a spy. Possibly a guy you do send after someone. he's the best player we won't be using in a dedicated role on defense, and he fits the abilities of what you're talking about.

When I think of a goon in football, I think of guys like Romo. Usually LB's that play on the edge of a penalty on every play and get see plenty of yellow and fines thrown their way throughout the year.
I don't see a player that fits my description on this team, nor do I see the need for one. I'd rather have a solid group of good clean hitters that keep their mouths shut and control their emotions. Not to say I like the lethargic type of player, rather the player that turns on the rage when the ball is snapped and turns it off when the whistle blows.

In our glory year I thought Latham filled that role. In the SF game, when it was on the line Lamar hit Young in such a way that it affected the QB's ability to perform. We need that now and I think Morgan is the most likely candidate if he ever learns to play off a block. I know it's aganst the majority to say anything negative about Morgan but look at last year's film. Morgan was the most easily blocked LB I have ever seen.

A goon would play for some team I didn`t like, but if he`s on my team then its just "heart".

I think we've had enough "goon" in Rae and Mrs. Freddie for the history of our franchise.

I'll give Morgan the benefit of the doubt and allow the rookie tag as an excuse for his inability to disengage from a block. If he can learn to get separation at the point of attack (meaning rid the blocker at the point of attack) and still not over run the play...he will be that guy.
However, just not in a ROMO king of way. The thing I like most about Morgan is he seems to play with control emotionally. I don't think I have ever seen him talking smack after a play.

  9. Totally agree with you there. I'd love to see Coop in on some more defensive stands rather than just special teams. I'm hoping he can prove himself worthy this camp and then Fox will see that he means business and put him in more (not that I don't want him in on ST).
