    Here's what happened:

    1) Solarte asks a question about red cards for tackles from behind.

    2) Elric and I answered him.

    3) vpkozel The Soccer Expert ™ then said something dopey because he didn't like someone else giving an answer.

    4) I provide an article proving specifically that in 1998, FIFA added an amendment (Decision 4) to Law 12 stating that all tackles from behind were to be punished with red cards. In that article, FIFA president Joseph Blatter specifically answered the question as to whether referees had discretion or if all tackles from behind should be red carded.

    5) vpkozel knows that he can't argue with the president of FIFA, so he lies and says that the rule was never implemented. He refers to the fact that it wasn't listed in the part of the rules he posted, only he conveniently left out the amendments that came in the very next section of Law 12 (kind of like pretending that the Bill of Rights is everything in the Constitution and no other amendments exist).

    6) I provide various articles proving that the rules were instituted for the 1998 World Cup and caused varying degrees of controversy.

    7) vpkozel fails to admit that the rule was instituted, continues to pretend that he didn't leave out any of the rules, and now directly contradicts the words of FIFA president Joseph Blatter by insisting that only certain tackles from behind would draw reds even though I already posted the article showing where Blatter said that all tackles from behind require a red card.

    8) I then badger vpkozel about his obvious lying just to avoid admitting his mistake, while vpkozel tries to bury the truth under a mountain of verbiage and recriminations. Hilarity ensues.

I wondered about this since the discussion began so I wrote an email to Bobby McMahon who is a soccer analyst for Fox Sports and is covering Euro 2008. His reply:

It does not state as such in the Laws of the Game but is one of the situations that is now being covered under "Instructions to Referees." My understanding is that it goes something like this. The laws preclude a tackler playing the man before playing the ball and if he does then a free kick is awarded.

Further a player can be carded if he tackles in a reckless manner. FIFA then decided that it was impossible to tackle from the back without playing the man first so tackles from behind were illegal.

Then because it automatically meant that the man was being played before the ball it had to be reckless. One piece of logic becomes the foundation for the next decision sort of thing.

You may get away with a tackle (I think you also have to differentiate between a tackle and a challenge) from behind from time to time depending on the severity but I would say that a slide from the back will always always get you a yellow and often a red.

    Hope this helps.
    Bobby

vpkozel says that the president of FIFA is wrong, so I don't think he's going to be too impressed by Bobby McMahon, but thanks for trying.

    And now:
Shut the fuck up, Mr. Soccer Expert. You got your ass handed to you in single-serving cans. At this point you might as well tuck back between your legs and fart your own head off.

Fuck you're stupid. Seriously, your arrogance leads to a world class case of the stupids sometimes.

See, what he's saying there is that you might not get a card every time - depending on how severe the tackle is. Which is what I said originally.

You need to just quit now. You've entered the giving her mom a mixed tape full of love songs, hoping that she'll pass it along stage of patheticness.

Oh, and perhaps you can go ahead and tell me how this little gem fits with you persistent point of view that the rules mandate all tackles are red cards.

Everyone, and I do mean everyone, sees that you're wrong. Even sly came around when I PMed him the 1998 story showing the FIFA president saying that tackles from behind are always supposed to get red cards. This whole debacle is a result of you being a tiny-dick prick who can't admit when he's wrong. Just a simple "I didn't know that" response would have saved you all that grief, but no, you have to pretend like you're some soccer expert.

vpkozel The Soccer Expert™ knows more about the rules than the president of FIFA who said that "all tackling from behind is considered to endanger the physical integrity of the opponent, so no tackling from behind will be tolerated by Fifa."
You said that "just because it's from behind and he doesn't get the ball doesn't make it either card" and "they don't always get a card."

    Bobby McMahon said:
"A slide from the back will always always get you a yellow and often a red."

Just shut the fuck up, you ignorant jackass. For months anyone who sees you spouting bullshit is going to point to this thread and your humiliation as a know-it-all asshole who won't admit when he's clearly proven wrong. You're a joke, dumbfuck, and with every post you're just making it worse. I told you from the very beginning that I didn't care whether you acknowledged your mistake or just stayed quiet. You should have heeded my advice.
