Ephedrine Suspensions

On last nights NFL tonight, John Clayton said it had been rumored for awhile that 2 Panther D-lineman were going to be hit by this. He said that since we now know who they are, it is unlikely any more Panthers will be effected. So at least this will hopefully be the end.

However, Clayton also said there are about 10 more players in the league who will likely be suspended for using ephedrine or a derivitive. He said that the announcements are made on Wednesdays, so more suspensions should start trickling out in the next week or two.

Only thing I can say is at least we are not in the playoff hunt this year. Can you imagine if say Duece McAllister gets suspended for NO. That could do serious damage to their playoff hopes. Even if they would still get in, they might lose the all-important home field advantage. It would be one thing to lose a key player who took something that enhanced his performance, but it would be hard to accept missing out on the playoffs because the player tried to lose weight before camp.

Put these players on probation and make them take random drug tests, but don't suspend them for 1 positive result for something that does not effect their on-field performance. That's just ludicrous.

 

I don't know much about ephedrine or why it is considered so bad, but I don't think any player should be suspended for something that is for legal use for the public. You can buy it at any drug store or even Wal Mart FGS.

What's the big deal with ephedrine? Someone enlighten me please.

Ephedrine is a powerful stimulant. I guess it's sort of like caffeine, but probably stronger. If you ever noticed yourself or someone else getting amped up on cold or allergy meds or diet fuel, that's why.

Now taken in its intended dosage for its intended purpose is fine. But my impression is that some athletes are overdosing on the stuff to get themselves psyched up for a game. If so, they're prolly causing serious stress to their hearts. The 'edge' they might get is probably insignificant compared to the damage they might be causing themselves.

 

I use to take 4-6 pills at a time in college while working as a bartender. Those things screw you up bad. I was so screwed up I had to start doing a couple hits of ectasy, an 8 ball of coke, a quarter bag of cronic and a fifth goldsloger just to calm down.

I'm fine now. I shake like Ozzy, but it does wonders for my sex life. Women like that irregular rythmic motion.

 

This is rediculous. The NFL policy is fucked in this area, my understranding is that if these guys tested postive for cocaineor pot they get lectured first time and it isn't uintil the third or forth violation they get suspended. Ephedera on the otherhand, which anyone can buy at their local GNC, is a first time you test positive you're suspended.

IMO, it is relatively safe if used in the short term and at the dosage on the bottle.

Over a long period of time, it will raise blood pressure and has an effect on the nervous system which I'm not familir with...for me, it riased my blood pressure. I started getting bloody noses regularly after taking something with it in it for probably two+ years....I only took it bofore working out...usually 2X per day. The bloody noses were caused by raised blood pressure.

The problem with it, like most things including household cleaners and pesticides is this....if the amount to use on the bottle is good, the twice that is real good, three times that is great, etc etc. It's a PR thing, plain and simple.

when they say "natural" they are referring to a chinese herb called ma huang....it has a lot of effedra in it.

The shit can be found in sudafed for crying out loud.

 

Ephedrine will give you a nice rush. It speeds you up rather nicely. I used to take them all the time. The most I took at once was 4 and that was after about 6 mos on 2 or 3. That's when I stopped taking it.

After about 15 mins after taking them you'll notice your heart rate pick up and vision gets a touch clearer and you feel sharper. It also increases your emotion... anger is increased as is happiness and so on. I've never felt down after taking them so that's not a factor. A few times when I took them and got angry I felt like I could rip someone's head off. The thing is Epedrine decreases your ability to build muscle. In the short term they help because the increase in metabolism but after prolonged exposure they affect your muscles ability to tear.


I still take a few here and there but never any more than 2 at a time.

 

where'd you hear that? Body builders take that stuff all of the time...there are some real hardcore drinks by ABB and EAS that have a big dose of ephedra in it and body builders take. The serious ones get a bottle, drink half of it before they work out, then sip the remaineder through out the duration of their workout.

 

Korey Stringer was on ephedra when he died. All of this is an overreaction to his death.
