    Here you go.........

.Indie Rock has long been an elusive genre encompassing several sub genres such as emo, screamo, and DIY music. All in all independent music can be seen as a father category for all music not published by a major label. Indie rock to me is really just rock and roll on an independent label. Emo, on the other hand, as a sub-genre of independent music does, I believe, have a distinct quality separate from what we call pop rock and/or rock and roll.
.....For example, Indie Rock bands that I would say define the genre most stereotypically, are The Get Up Kids, Piebald, The Movie Life, Jimmy Eat World, and Jets to Brazil. Emo bands that that define the genre for me would be Sunny Day Realestate. Joan of Arc, The Promise Ring, and Braid. Many people like to say that emo(short for emotional) is emotional hardcore or some such nonsense. To say that would be to make the assumption that indie rock, and any other genre of music is lacking emotion. Hardcore indie rock music, is packed with emotion, and arguably, solely driven by it.
......The fact is, that all although emo slightly distinguishes itself, all of these sub genres are phony and only connote the fan's insecurity about liking music that other people like and be considered popular. By creating these sub-genres like indie rock, emo, independent music, screamo, and the like, they are creating a niche for themselves. A lot of the allure of the indie rock scene can be attributed to the fact that a fan feels as though he or she is really a part of something as opposed to a mere fan. This is because even the most popular indie rock bands are still playing at small venues and are frequently accessible after a show.

Wow... good response... I read an interview with Jimmy Eat World today... And there it was also .... the answer I had been looking for.. It was pretty much the same thing you said. But they also lumped Weezer in to that catagory.. The more I read in to this musical type I realize it's not for me.. Is A.F.I. emo?? Or hard core?? Kind of a fine line there... Just in the last couple of years I have really started to pickup on different kinds of music because of the shitty state the music industry is in right now.. Pretty much everything out there is crap!!! I have really went into punk over the last year and really think to my self how in the hell did I miss this music?? Minor Threat, Dead Kennedys, the Misfits, Pennywise, Bad Religon, Rancid, Dropkick Murphys all great music that I never understood or gave a chance too... just didn't want to miss more music.... Thanks for the answer Inamorata... You seem pretty up on music. What do you like??

    Very welcome.

As for me I like most anything.

Have you tried Anthrax, Nuclear Assualt, Suicideal Tendencies (album - Lights Camera Revolution) or Rush. You may like 'em.

In the car tonight I realized I didn't like any music on the top 9 at 9. I felt old. :(
