I for one would love to see emmet play for us but...................

Its not gonna happen. Dallas will restructure his contract and he will play one more year in big D.

Besides we need a qb more than a 13 year veteran rb!!

"Pat Yasinskas reports for the Charlotte Observer a source close to Dallas Cowboys RB Emmitt Smith said the Carolina Panthers are one of a handful of teams the running back would consider playing for if he leaves Dallas. The source also said Smith has recently purchased a home in the Carolinas. A series of events would have to occur to make Smith available, and it's no given the Panthers would be interested. GM Marty Hurney said there have been no discussions about Smith because he remains under contract."

Kordell Stewart, now Emmitt Smith – I have to wonder exactly why these guys would show such an interest in coming here. My guess is that both players see very little competition (no Maddox or Hambrick). Their agents probably pointed them in our direction since we have been such suckers with payroll in the past. Their agents probably guaranteed them that we would cough up 5 year contracts with guaranteed big bonus bucks.

Frankly, I don’t see Hurney taking the Gilbert/Evans/Chuck Smith route anytime soon. Emmitt is probably just blowing some smoke. If he’s serious he could really help us, at least for a year while Foster completes rehab. However, Smith does have a king-sized ego and I doubt he will be signing on for any Peete-like 1 year deal. He IS the all-time rushing champion and he and Reggie White would be the only sure hall of famers to wear Panther uniforms.

Looking at Stephan Davis' monstrous yearly cash that the Skins are trying to purge I have to believe that both he and Emmitt would be WAY out of our price range. Emmitt would probably not come much cheaper than Davis. :(
