Starting shooting guard Wayne Ellington will return to North Carolina for his sophomore season, his father said Monday.

"It wasn't even a thought,'' Wayne Ellington Sr. said of his son possibly jumping to the NBA. "He didn't do what he thought he might be able to do this season, so he's coming back to school."

Ellington averaged 11.7 points and started 37 of 38 games for the Tar Heels, who lost in the NCAA regional finals.

Ellington Sr. said his son next year will be stronger defensively, bigger physically, and diversify his offensive game.

"He's looking forward to coming back,'' the father said.

UNC freshman forward Brandan Wright, freshman point guard Ty Lawson and sophomore forward Tyler Hansbrough have not yet announced if they will return for the 2007-08 season.

Coach Roy Williams had said he expected to learn of their decisions by early this week.

If he would have went it would've been a Joe Forte-type career for him most likely. Glad to see he realizes he has MUCH to improve on, especially defense.
