What was Jesus talking about in the parable of the rich man and Lazarus if there was no afterlife prior to his death and ressurection? Jesus mentions the rich man seeing and talking to Abraham. How could that be if there was not afterlife prior to Jesus?

Hey, Im happy that someone finally replied to my thread.

I dunno TheIt. You tell me since you're the religious guy and I'm the undecided heathen. I don't get it. That really bothered me during the service.

How can a priest/deacon/bishop whatever say something like that to a packed house and no one questions it?

Did anyone leave? I probably would have.

Some churches are filled with people who just take everything that comes from the pulpit on complete faith -- and there are few things in this world that are more dangerous. Other clergy use intimidation tactics to keep from being held accountable by the masses. I thank God I don't belong a church that prescribes to either of those.

This is a very well known Catholic church, I'm guessing the oldest in Charlotte, or nearly the oldest. It also has a very affluent and presumably educated/intelligent membership...

I'm just glad to find out that he was mistaken/misquoting.

Imma cynic about those kinds of churches, but I've seen too many of them not to be, unfortunately.

Thing is, there are a lot of churches that cater to social status and revert to a social club and not the mission that is given to them upon salvation.

I agree that many people believe what the messenger says but if and when you attend service always take your bible with you to follow along and highlight the text and take notes of the sermon then go home and study your notes and compare it to the text.
If you have questions, attend bible study and raise them there.

I am not catholic so I really can't say where the guy got that stuff from. I do not find it to be supported by the bible.
