So it sounds like I need a new burner potentially. Got any suggestions for low price, medium and grand daddy?

NEC 3500A, I believe, is pretty good for $85 or so on NewEgg. Dual Layer DVD Burner, 16x I think.

One hint....do not rip to a USB external drive that is not connected to a USB2.0 port. GOOD DOG it's slow.

Some of the newer disc are using the Sony ARccOS protection.DVD Decrypter may work if you use ISO mode as if you rip it into file you get all those dummy files & sector error.

The protection isn't new, just being used more now

Hey Boo, I have a new laptop with DVD burner and downloaded both of these softwares. I used the encryptor, no problem. The DVD shrink software is a little harder to figure out. I unclicked the other languages leaving the english version, can you screen shot where I go next? Will I burn the new DVD with Nero or the shrink program? Thanks :xyzthumbs

I think Nero might be your default burner listed in the Shrink Preferences

open shrink, click edit and scroll to bottom ,click preferences, then last tab on box called File/IO check the box to enable burning with Nero

you can shrink from a movie file already in a folder or straight from the movie disk

from the folder just highlight the movie and click OK..... and from the disk make sure you see the movie listed in whatever your DVD burning drive is called , usually D:\[NAMEOFMOVIE] it analyzes your movie for 30 seconds to several minutes and goes back to the main shrink screen.. then you click Backup!

now this is the way i do it.........

i also found using DVD decryptor and clone dvd works just as well....
but when i'm in a hurry DVD X COPY XPress is the best ticket..

After I found the decrypted version of movie I couldn't find that option other than the Backup to start the analyzing process. I went ahead and hit backup, and now it is going through that process (I think) It is encoding and taking around 15 minutes. Blank DVD in drive and Nero is already the default
Once I make a backup is this backup encoded? In otherwords will I need to decrypt future backups?

I think you will be able to open your Nero Start Smart ... There is a drop down box in the middle /top... i keep it on DVD since i rarely copy anything on CD..... then choose what you want to copy.... on mine all i have to click is the star and it gives me the option to copy a dvd.... thats what i use .
