Just to highlight something that totally rocks, I'll post it again (plus I need a break from some intense work):

You can RIP ANY DVD to your hard disk, removing all copy protection and all of the annoying control lockouts (inability to skip immediately to menus, etc.).

You can then change the content easily to fit a normal DVD (DVDs that movies come on are double-layer - double the space) by compressing content, removing audio tracks you don't need (why have French), getting rid of some of the extras, etc.

You can then rip it back to a DVD, watchable in any normal DVD player. Quality is flawless, assuming you don't have to compress the content too much (can compress down to 50% of original, I can't tell any difference when I've done 80-100% compression).

Sources for this coolness (ALL FREE, legally):
DVD Decrypter - rips DVD, removes copy protection. Basically a one-click operation, works flawlessly and fast.

DVD Shrink - takes ripped data, can re-encode and write to DVD through integration with Nero. Very easy to write back data if it fits on a DVD as-is, pretty simple to learn how to remove data/compress if it won't fit on a DVD as-is.
    http://www.dvdshrink.org/what.html

Nero - you can use a demo version of Nero to work with DVD Shrink (link on the DVDShrink site), DVD Shrink just leverages the Nero engine, you never use the Nero GUI (makes it VERY simple to write to DVD).

I have never burned a bad DVD this way, have never failed to rip a DVD. It rocks. Takes about 15 minutes to rip to your hard drive, 5 minutes to do whatever tweaking to content is required to fit a DVD, then 15 minutes to re-encode the DVD content and whatever time it takes for your DVD burner to write data (my 8x burner is writing at 4x for now (bunch of older 4x media lying around), takes about 20 minutes).

    Enjoy.

I just backup my own movies...

In all truth, I've had SEVERAL of my movies borrowed by friends, and returned all scratched up because they are morons. Backups are nice.
FYI: Meatpile is both a friend and a moron, but he hasn't borrowed a movie yet.

I've deposited several 'cams' throughout your bedroom, and am currently compiling a dvd of your 'breeding sessions'.

Trouble is, after a few months i only have 6 minutes of material.

2 months, 3x per week (ah, if only I could travel a little MORE) = 24 sessions / 6 minutes = 15 seconds per. About right.

I've had the same experiences as bootay. Pretty sweet setup. Had to upgrade the hard drives to 500 gig.

I, just this very evening, was attempting to get around this very problem. Sweet.
