    i'm playing with a friend co-op, 1 pet each.

we're finding that there's a lot of stuff we can't figure out till later. the quests tend to send you places non-linearly. like there are places near where you start that you can't get to till you get farther along in the story. i'm assuming the rest of the game does that as well. phoenix room? what the fuck ever. i'm sure somebody will mention it when it's important. or at least, i hope so.

oh, and i'm playing a combat mage, he's playing a range weapon specialist (with a tad of nature magic). i've got an ice elemental (nature magic) as a pet, he's got a dire wolf (melee). fucking monster ai are trained to attack combat mages first... fuckers.

One of the things I wish would make the game simpler, or easier to "understand"...

WHICH quest is the arrow pointing to on the mini-map? I wish when you selected a Quest in the Journal, that it would change the arrow to help you know which way to go.

Nut, I've dropped the $2k and gotten myself two additional party members on top of Deru or whatever the Ranged chick's name is.

Ive also picked up a nature magic whore, and a giant dude, and Im training him in melee and combat magic. When I get in a scuffle, I switch him to combat magic and switch to Rampage mode so he goes out and distracts every one. Then, when he dies, nature magic whore ressurects him. Seems to be working well.

yeah, i don't even know what that arrow is all about. it's not too hard to figure out where you need to go -- follow the road, generally. they didn't put tons of area to explore that isn't on the main route. a good rule of thumb is what level resistance you're encountering. if it's near your level, then you're probably in the right place.

i haven't played single player too much. we've been conscious of not getting a big group (2 players can have 2 companions each). right now we've got pets and not other humans so there's no equipment or training stuff to do. altho, you can feed pets items and they'll "grow up" and get better stats depending on what you feed them. it looks like there's a few quests that require npcs to join the party for you to unlock, so we've gotten help occasionally to get those quests going.

the drawback of ds and ds2 has always been that it's a little too automated. ds1 in particular. you can literally just watch it play itself, move your party a few feet, hit z, repeat. with a large party, it gets a little too easy.

    Hey Nut,

Wtf is up with the save feature if it doesnt actually return you to the spot you last saved at?

It's almost as if you need to be near a teleporter to actually have a "traditional save" because it takes you back to town every time.

I never found a way to "Load Saved Game"...

    Am I missing something?

(I just finished the Kithraya Caverns quest and warped to the Azunite desert. It's finally starting to get cool and unrepetitive.)

i've only really played in multiplayer, so the save feature makes a certain amount of sense in that regard -- like diablo 2 did it. your personal quest log is saved with your character, but the world is reset.

we finished it last weekend and have to go back do a few side quests.

I'm up to the beginning of Act III in single player mode. Pretty good so far.

if you're playing a combat mage, you really need to go with death magic and vampirism. the lightning/fire thing just don't cut it. and pump up your energy orb thing to level 3. it deal ridiculous damage and as long as you've got a death magic spell active, it will heal you as it does damage (i'm sure this is a bug). and since it will also deal damage after you've fallen, it can revive you. in a big group, it'll do enough damage to actually recharge itself, too. have an autocast drown/dehydrate/wither(?) and you'll be doing so much damage that you'll never need a health potion again.

as soon as i switched to death magic, my guy was nearly indistructable(sp?) -- which was way different than he used to be. he used to get rocked real fast cuz he didn't have too many hit points and they'd go after him first (i think the ai goes for mages). the potion drinking was too slow and i'd run out or get dropped before they'd take effect.

the AI goes after the character doing combat magic first.

So, my little battle plan is to have a barb doing combat magic in front of the group, then my ranged and nature magic whores hang back in the back while I (Half-Giant) run around and melee the fuck out of everyone.

I havent played in a couple of weeks....Just too busy with a new job and getting caught up on other shit. I need to hurry up with this though.

Man, I'm lost in all of this. I spread my experience points evenly throughout all of the different choices. I guess it's too late now to concentrate on vampirism and death magic. When you say the lightning/fire thing don't cut it, what do you mean? Which spell is the main one you used during battles? I'm a level 38 and still have not found a drown/dehydrate/or wither spell. Where abouts did you find them? I'm at the point now where in Act III I'm trying to direct the water flow under the city. At what point can I get my energy orb to recharge faster?
