Sure, and why will Duke be good as the year goes on? Because the starters will have had extended playing time together.

Redick played 27. Shelden played 16.

Paulus played 26 and McRoberts played 19. K is getting his freshmen playing time, not running up the score.

I'd understand even if Wardie hadn't been so dreadfully wrong.

He was wrong on the running up the score, but the team lost what 1 starter?? Why would they need "extended playing time" together to gel?

It's a new season, and Duke plays for championships.

Hey this game was a lot better than the BU game. I can't complain, since the playing time was spread out pretty evenly. I say you have to play your game no matter what, yes you can take the starters out at some point which I think you should. But under no circumstances play a different game from what you teach in practice unless there is valid reason to do so for winning the game.

If I have the third string in there and we are up by 50, and my game is run and gun, I want that third string playing run and gun. You never know when injuries can happen and you want your bench to have as much experience to step in and play the game you want them to.

Also, a lot of time during the second half Duke was playing their 6-10 players. For most other teams there would be at least two or three scrubs in that bunch, but Duke goes 10 deep this year, if not 11 with Patrick Johnson. If you put in UNC's 6-10 this year it would be mop up duty with walk-ons and Marcus Ginyard. And in the last four minutes with everyone out the lead got even bigger. Williams hardly played at all cause of foul trouble, and anyway, Seton Hall is suppose to finish 15th in the Big East. I thought they should've taken Redick out a little sooner, but I can understand leaving everyone else in. If anyone saw the BU game you could see that everyone had rust except Williams and Redick. It wouldn't do any harm to leave in players like Melchionni who for some reason is bricking threes. It was enjoyable seeing Boykin scrapping for the ball in the final minutes.

New season or not if Dook is #1, 1 change at a starting position shouldn't affect how dook gels, but as far as the 2nd and 3rd string taking it to a team, I have no problem with that, and I think that's what dook did this time. So I've got no complaints about this game. My only complaint is with the theory its okay to leave starters in to run up a game that's already been decided.

blah blah blah. lot's of it here today. mcroberts in two games has completely outdone anything shav-country did in 3 years. those frosh look good to me, granted it was garbage time.

saw an interesting stat, looks like K was somewhere in the range of 100 wins behind deano(i'm not sure, could be closer to 150 and i don't care because i don't feel like looking it up). so averaging 20 wins the next 5 seasons will have him break ole big nose's record in about 5 less years than it took deano. just in case you guys forgot.
