Duke forward Dave McClure, recovering from major knee surgery, will sit out his sophomore season, coach Mike Krzyzewski said during the debut of his weekly XM Satellite Radio show Wednesday, the Herald Sun of Durham, N.C. reported.

"Our sophomore class only has two kids, and one of them is going to be a medical redshirt, Dave McClure, because he had a real serious knee injury," Krzyzewski said on "Basketball and Beyond with Coach K."

The newspaper said McClure had a second surgery on his left knee in May after missing seven games with the injury his freshman year. The initial surgery in January revealed McClure was missing a small bone in the knee.

Krzyzewski said over the summer that the rehab had been going slowly and that a redshirt year was a possibility.

McClure, a 6-6 forward, averaged 1.7 points and 1.4 rebounds as a freshman, as he was hampered by the injury even when he was healthy enough to play.

He isn't that great of a player but he filled in some minutes and seems like a good guy. after this class graduates we'll only have one player graduate over the next two years. There won't be much room for scholarships at Duke for a while.

Not sure how you can say he isn't a great player yet. He made some really athletic plays in the limited minutes he got and that while being hurt.
