Broke down some Fasani tape from this week, mostly just the throws:

on 2nd down play action fake he starts to roll right and two defenders are there. He pulls up and has to throw, can't see the deeper receivers open. Gain of two.

Third down - Fasani stays in pocket - no rush - and dumps off to back for three. Missed tackle, first down. nice touch.

First down - pass shown but takes off within one bounce of the fifth step. Gets first down.
First down's great, but how many times in a game can you do that? Wouldn't mind seeing what he wants out of the second and third receivers first.

First down - stays in there - and throws it away when the rush starts coming.

I tell you what. Seems like he's stayed in there five times in preseason up to this point and two of them he's taken roughing calls.

First down on the roughing call - nearly picked. Heinrich was covered on the post and Hankton was running a slant near the goal. Tipped ball by linebacker on what probably shouldn't have been the receiver to throw to.
Yes, he did stay in the pocket again.

Second down. Fasani gets flushed and runs right. Ill-advised pass to Kyle Johnson out of bounds.

as we get the ball back it's noted that there's 23 rushing yards and 21 passing for Fasani. Not to take away from it, but 19 was on the dump to the back and 15 of that was after missed tackles.

    second drive
Bomb to Bright off target. Stepped up into the pocket but stayed in. That's four where he stayed in and three where he vacated.

Fasani drops, has time, looks to run right for no apparent reason but McKinley's coming around the corner right and he takes off left. Good protection left but he can't turn the corner so he goes right again. Then he throws a grounder to Montgomery. The ball fluttered, was not a good ball.

Now we're to 4 and 4 for scramble/not scramble. He's 1-3 for 2 yards and one rush for 23 when he takes off now. He's 1-4 for 19 but with the roughing call it's 1-3/19. I imagine this is where he takes off because these stats are bleak. Two nice displays of ballcarrying and a penalty gave us a FG so far.

Stays in the pocket but just barely - buys some time and fires off from over RT. Looked like he had to back off when he saw Bright, otherwise he was going. Sideline pass for 18 yards. Now his pocket stats are 2-5 for 37. Ball wobbled a lot, wasn't clean. But he made the play.

Stays in the pocket, fires left to Bright again but throws into double coverage. Could ahve been trouble but he overthrew the bunch.

After a run of 6 for 33, 3rd and 4. Black with a nice hook in and gets the first down. Good ball, 3-7 for 53.

Pocket pass again, but then pumps and takes off. You'd figure the pump is to set something else up but it isn't, he takes off. The now-traditional throw to a waiting Bright on the same sideline is incomplete. He's now 1-4 for 2 yards scrambling.

3 yard run sets up third down pass, stays in the pocket, fires on a rope to Baker right at the marker. Excellent.
First down, stays in but not really - gets shaky, gets nervous, wants to run right, sees a man there, wants to go left, no, not there either, wants to drop and get around the corner and tucks the ball. He's given up on the pass and he doesn't always do that but most QBs looking to run go north south when possible. This gets a yard of running. That's not worth having two linemen get a shot at you.

3rd down - Baker open at the marker again but the ball is overthrown and Baker gets laid out. Yeah, Fasani was in the pocket. 3/8 pocket for 53 and total 4/12 for 55 overall.

By the way I think this illegal formation situation on the right tackle is involving the TE.
The TE will line up right on the LOS where a RT is often fanned out. The RT can be within the limit for the line but a whole man behind the TE and that's why it looks illegal. Has happened numerous times this preseason.

Third series - two runs by Goings, run by Johnson, offsides, run, run, then 2nd and 5.

Fasani's third PF roughing penalty. Wow. Nearly picked off beforehand. A drive that started on the Cleveland 38 gets another boost. After a running-only first down play set, a first down penalty certainly doesn't hurt either.

Then he runs to the 1, trying to get more he fumbles. Set play, because you see the G going upfield. That's fine - it works - but I would want to see him throw. Goings scores next play.

Fourth series - great pass middle left to Heinrich for 31. Yep - pocket. Good ball too. Can't make that throw running around.

Again, nice throw from the pocket, now to Black, great route, good spiral. 19 more.
7/15 now, 115. Take away the scramble throws and you're 6/11 for 113 which isn't that bad for a rook.

Floater to Black left sideline for 8. The first down run is funny since Fasani's faking option backside. How's that again? No. We didn't just fake the option. nah.
After Goings run for 9 Fasani can't convert 2nd and 1, hesitates and then instead of taking off (actually, it's good territory to do so with one yard to go and a down to waste) but he throws it away while in the grasp. Almost grounding, just like another play I remember from Washington.
Fasani doesn't throw again. He scrambles once more for a few more yards.

Overall after studying it better instead of just watching it, it's pretty obvious from my comments that I am not unhappy with Fasani in the pocket but he still lacks the patience when a receiver isn't open downfield. he had some good balls, and some bad balls. I never doubted he was a player, but he's got a lot to learn and not just in the level of staying in versus running.

I seem to remember tfy bitching about his accuraccy during the combine.

It's always been hot and cold accuracy wise with Weinke.

seems like the only dead-ass accurate QBs out there in the draft are either Mannings or have no arm like heupel.

I like to see Fasani run. I know he needs to wait for plays to develop and everything else but I really get bummed out watching our QB's just take a sack. Doesn't Farve run around......
hell let the man run. You don't gain anything taking a sack if you don't have to. I don't ever see C.W. going for it. At least it seems that way. I'm glad we got him from what I've seen, and I hope he becomes the Man.
But as the man sez, " he hasn't been playing against Ray Lewis either.

    How long until Sunday........
